Palawan's vast land area and topography, divided by tall mountain ranges like Mt.

Mantalingahan, Mt. Gantung, and Cleopatra's Needle, made it a "Man and Biosphere

Reserve" by UNESCO. Palawan has abundant natural resources. The entire island province

of Palawan is believed to have significant mineral resources, including marble, silica,

limestone, nickel, chromites, copper, iron, pyrite, sulphur, guano, rock phosphates,

mercury, gold, manganese, and oil.

Despite these abudant natural resources, multiple research undertaken by local and

international geological organizations indicate that the entire mainland of Palawan rests on

granitic continental crust and is part of the geologically susceptible continental block. Thus,

a rise in mining activity in Palawan could have severe detrimental effects on the province's

catchments, shorelines, and overall terrain.

All of Earth's resources ought to be used responsibly. Natural resources need to be

preserved. To conserve is to refrain from using up, spoiling, or wasting resources. The case

is even more dire for the nonrenewable materials. Yet, if they are completely eradicated or

exploited to exhaustion, even renewable natural resources might be depleted. Additionally,

we need to prevent further pollution of our natural resources. When individuals release

toxic chemicals and other substances into the environment, this is called pollution. The

dumping of trash by the side of the road, the release of harmful substances into the air, and

oil spills in water are all examples of this problem.
