Opening Prayer
Dear Lord and Father of all, Thank you for
today. Thank you for ways in which you provide
for us all. For Your protection and love we thank
you. Help us to focus our hearts and minds now
on what we are about to learn. Inspire us by
Your Holy Spirit as we listen and write. Guide us
by your eternal light as we discover more
about the world around us. We ask all this in
the name of Jesus. Amen.

SOIL: THE PLACE WHERE MOST

PLANTS GROW
A. TYPES AND CHARACTERISTICS
B. FACTORS AFFECTING THE
GROWTH OF SELECTED PLANTS
SOIL
Soils are complex mixtures of
minerals, water, air, organic
matter, and countless
organisms that are the
decaying remains of once-
living things.
THREE TYPES OF SOIL
Clay Soil
Sandy Loam Soil
Silt Soil
CLAY SOIL
Clay Soil is a heavy soil type that
benefits from high nutrients. Clay soils
remain wet and cold in winter and dry out
in summer. These soils are made of over 25
percent clay, and because of the spaces
found between clay particles, clay soils
hold a high amount of water.

CLAY SOIL
sandy soil
Sand soils are often dry, nutrient deficient
and fast-draining. They have little (or no)
ability to transport water from deeper layers
through capillary transport. Therefore,
tillage of sandy soils in the spring should be
kept to a minimum in order to retain moisture in
the seedbed. The nutrient- and water-holding
capacity of sand soils can be improved through
adding organic material.

sILT soil
Silt is a type of soil also known as
alluvial soil. This soil gets eroded by
the rivers and deposit along the river
banks on the plain. This type of soil is
mostly found near the banks of many
rivers. This type of soil, silt is very
fertile and good for growth of plants
and helps in agriculture.

Factors affecting
the growth of
Selected Plants
Factors affecting the growth
of Selected Plants
1. Light
2. water
3. temperature
4. Nutrients
5. FERTILIZER FOR
NUTRIENTS
LIGHT
Plants have evolved throughout
time in different locations
throughout the world. Some plants
developed in tropical locations
under the canopy of large trees
while others developed on slopes
of harsh mountain ranges.
water
In order to survive, plants have to have
water. Most plants are made up of
nearly 90 percent water. Without the
appropriate amounts of water, plants
will be stressed and eventually die.
Even plants that live in the desert such
as the cactus need water, they just need
less of it than other types of plants.

TEMPERATURE
Weather or temperature plays an
important role in plant growth.
Plants will slow down or speed up
their growth rate based on the
temperature. Warm temperatures
encourage growth and
germination.
nutrients
here are certain nutrients that
plants need in order to grow.
Carbon, oxygen, and hydrogen are
three of the nutrients that plants
need. They get these from water
and from air.
FERTILIZER FOR NUTRIENTS
One of the best ways to ensure
proper plant growth is to using
natural compost or manure in the
soil. These will add the missing
nutrients to the soil as well as
provide new nutrients for the
plants.
Do you have any questions?
Evaluation
Answer the following questions:
1. it is the type of soil wherein it has a light
and moisture retentive soil type with a high
fertility rating?
2. it is a type of soil wherein it has is a
heavy soil type that benefits from high
nutrients?
3. it is a type of soil wherein it has a
naturally occurring granular material
composed of finely divided rock and mineral
particles?
ASSIGNMENT:
Bring a sample of the
three types of soil
which are the silt,
sandy and clay
THANK YOU
