UNDERSTANDING THE SELF

The Spiritual Self
Cite one (1) religious practice that you observe or follow. Write a short reflection on how it
affects your Spiritual Self.
Christianity's main practice is praying to the Lord. Praying is the way we communicate
with God. There are different kinds of prayer, long, short, and heartfelt prayers. Some prayers
only come from the mouth. What God wants is for us to talk to him. So, the best prayer is the
prayer said from the heart. Be it a little talk with God, be it reading the prayers heartily, singing
songs to God from the heart, walking and praying from the heart, or doing things for the Lord.
Those mentioned are prayers. Prayers that truly make a difference. If we just pray with
ungenuine words, that words come from the mouth, it's basically just words. It is a meaningless
prayer to be exact.
Prayer provides a sense of peace, security, love, hope, faith, and guidance. The power of
prayer is unfathomable. When I pray from the heart, I feel heard and listened to. It touches my
heart knowing that someone out there is listening to me, my problems, and my difficulties with
no judgment. There are times when I cry my heart out and call the Lord, my mind would be
filled with peace. I have questions and I am confused about what I am capable of. Do I deserve
happiness? Do I deserve this life? These questions of mine are not always answered but as I
continue to live my life, answers to those questions begin to appear, and that I deserve happiness
and life. God always listens and often provides the specific answers and guidance we seek. Even
when He chooses not to answer immediately or in the way we might have hoped, He will help
and prayer itself is a way to find peace.
When one calls on the name of the Lord, it is remarkably effective. You can feel the
wonderful presence of God in prayers and you will feel your heart is being touched and you feel
peace even when you're crying. You will know when you connect with God.

What gives your life meaning?

God. He gave my life meaning. There are times when I contemplate the meaning of my
life because sometimes, I don’t understand why I am given this life and that I have no purpose in
this life that I am living right now. But when I pray, it motivates me to find the purpose of my
life. Sometimes it is tiring because it is like finding a needle in a haystack. However, life is like
that, we have to find the answers ourselves to grow and look into a bigger perspective. And in
order for me to find my purpose, I will have to grow as a person first. That is the answer God
gave me. God gave me people to love, understand and grow old with. By that, it made me
appreciate life and how beautiful the people are.
