WINDOW CLEANER

Specification

[0001]This invention relates to an improved method of cleaning glass windows and the like.
It is frequently necessary to clean glass windows such as for example automobile windows,
and in large factories, power houses and other industrial works the question of rapidly and
easily cleaning windows which have become heavily coated with soot and dirt is of
considerable importance.
[0002] It has been found that mineral oils do not achieve the desired result, and accordingly it
is essential that a vegetable oil be used, preferably peanut oil although olive oil will also give
satisfactory results.
[0003] The best method of performing the invention is to use a mixture of peanut oil and
powdered chalk in the proportion of one ounce of powdered chalk to one pint of peanut oil,
this mixture being applied to the surface to be cleaned at the rate of between 1 and 2 cubic
centimetres per square foot of glass to be cleaned.
[0004] The method according to the invention preferably comprises either spraying under
high pressure, or thoroughly rubbing on by hand, a liquid cleaning agent consisting of a
vegetable oil with which has been mixed a mildly abrasive powder, and subsequently
washing off the cleaning agent.
[0005] The mixture can if desired be applied to the surface to be cleaned by spraying it on at
high pressure by means of any suitable spraying device which will deal with liquids of such
viscosity, and the well-known “EASY-SPRAY” (Registered Trade Mark) is very suitable.
[0006] Alternatively, if it is desired to use manual labour instead of spraying machinery, the
mixture of peanut oil and powdered chalk can be thoroughly rubbed on by hand, using a
suitable cloth.
[0007] It will be found that when sprayed on or rubbed on by hand the vegetable oil rapidly
loosens the dirt and that the powdered chalk assists greatly in this process, especially when
hard deposits of dirt must be removed.
[0008] The cleaning agent may then conveniently be washed off by means of a high pressure
spray of water, the pressure being such that it causes the oil to emulsify and come away with
the water.
[0009] However, as an alternative to washing off with water spray, the cleaning agent can be
very effectively washed off by the application of a small quantity of methylated spirits, C
which has a particular advantage when cleaning automobile windows or windscreens which
have become spotted with tar or bitumen, which sometimes occurs when automobiles are
driven over newly made roads. In the past such spots of tar or bitumen have been found
difficult to completely remove, however using the method of this invention the action of the
peanut oil and powdered chalk, followed by washing off with methylated spirits, will be
found to completely remove all traces of tar and bitumen.
The claims defining the invention are as follows:
1. A method of cleaning windows by applying a mixture of oil and powder to the surface to
be cleaned.
2. A method of cleaning windows by applying to the surface to be cleaned by rubbing or
spraying at high pressure a cleaning agent consisting of a vegetable oil with which has been
mixed a powder.
3. A method as defined in Claim 2 in which the cleaning agent consists of peanut oil with
which powdered chalk has been mixed.
4. A method of removing tar or bitumen spots from windows by applying to the surface to be
cleaned by spraying or thorough hand rubbing a cleaning agent consisting of a mixture of
peanut oil and powdered chalk, and washing off the cleaning agent with methylated spirits.
5. A cleaning agent for use in cleaning windows, comprising a vegetable oil and a mildly
abrasive powder.
