I. Scenario: the JonBenet Ramsey Case
A. In 1996, six-year old JonBenet Ramsey was found murdered in the basement of her
home.
B. This crime scene reveals how important it is for crime scene investigators to secure a
crime scene immediately or valuable evidence may be lost forever.
C. Many mistakes were made
1) Rookie officer failed to check the house for clues
2) Used their families phone
3) A lot of people went inside the house and officer failed to create the crime scene
4) Took the case as only a kidnapping
5) Had the family to check the crime scene
6) And also moved evidence
7) And family put blanket over her body
D. To this day, the case remains unsolved.
II. Introduction
A. The crime scene investigation team is responsible for recognizing, documenting, and
collecting evidence.
B. The evidence collected at a crime scene is all investigators have to go on to recreate a
picture of what happened at the scene.
