INSTRUCTIONS/RULES
Content or material needs to the development of the game (board, chips, cards, instruments, etc.)
• 1 metronome (mechanical or digital)
Preparation
An arrangement of the players is established (for example, in a circle) and an order (who will be the
first and who will be last). It is explained that each player will collaborate in keeping a stable rhythmic
beat by performing with a single clap when it is their turn/beat in each round.
The game
• The conductor
One of the players plays the conductor. He/she set the metronome at a certain medium speed
(80-100 BPM) and counts “1, 2, 3, 4” to be the first to clap.
• Rest of the players, the musicians.
After the conductor, the next player claps in time and rhythm. And so on with the rest of the
players who keep the beat playing a single clap each when the turn comes, according to the
established disposition and order.
• Keeping the pulse and elimination of the players
Players have to maintain a steady beat without playing too fast or too slow by paying
attention to the metronome beating and keeping track of the path of the pulse until it is their
turn. In the event that they play out of pulse or rhythm, they will be eliminated, being
excluded from playing, but without leaving the circle or position in which they were in the
first place. Thus making it difficult for the rest of the players who are still active to follow the
beat.
• The speed of the tempo will be increased in each round (+2 BPM, +5 BPM, +10 BPM) at the
conductor’s discretion.
• Endgame
The game ends when there is only one active person left. This will be the winner.
Game turn example
A metronome is set at 100 BPM by one of the players that will play conductor’s role. He/she counts
“1, 2, 3, 4” up to the metronome beating and starts clapping on the next first beat/pulse, the next
player follows his/her lead and keep clapping on the second beat/pulse and so on.
Variants
• The first round could be played without the aid of the metronome to see what rhythmic and
beat proficiency the participants have.
• A beating on a 4/4 mete, 3/4 metre, 2/4 metre, etc. could be set. In this way the players would
have to accentuate the pulse 1 out of 4 in case of playing in a 4/4 metre.
• The eliminated players will produce silence.
• Different rhythms could be established (quarter notes, eighths, sixteenths, rests, etc. as well
as the combination of one and another).
• To set the metronome beating to a slow speed or very low speed (30 BPM) and play the
subdivision of that will be double speed (60 BPM), triple (90 BPM) or quadruple (120 BPM).
• “Us Ki Ki” game. It also could be a different game or just a continuation of this one.
Easy version.
