Unit Title/Thema/Focus: Module 1-Processing, Gathering and Presenting Information

Aim:
To equip students with the analytical skills needed to be productive citizens of the 21st Century
Overview:

Using pedagogical strategies such as Engagement, Exploration, Explanation, Elaboration and Evaluation as well as by developing students’ skills and competencies afforded by Bloom’s
Taxonomy, this unit develops students’ capacity to analyse, procure and present information from all genres of writing. Additionally, this unit seeks to enhance students’ achievement by
providing differentiated instruction that encourages excellence and scaffolds students who require remedial and corrective support.

By exposing students to the core concept of the Action Research/Expository Essay/Expository Speech, this unit ensures that students are equipped with the skills necessary to comprehend,
write and deliver at the tertiary level. Additionally, students are expose to online tools that will assist them with conducting primary and secondary research. These online modalities have
become necessary as the COVID-19 pandemic has upended physical contact between researcher an research participants and physical archives of research. Resultantly, students will be
more familiar with such online tools that will further advance their skills at the tertiary level.

Rationale:

1. This unit develops critical thinking skills necessary to navigate the demands of the 21 st Century
2. Students will be better able to perform optimally in the Module 1 component of the exam
3. Students’ chances of matriculating into their desired tertiary institution will be bolstered after having completed this module successfully
4. Students’ likelihood of embarking successfully on their desired career path will be increase thereby ensuring that a nation of professionals will be on hand to assure Jamaica’s Vision
