Chapter 7: Facilities & Infrastructure (Criteria 6)

NED University has state of the art IT infrastructure and allied facilities for supporting various

research and educational activities of faculty members & students. This includes high speed

internet access through a secure VPN, access to the PERN network, a video conferencing facility

for domestic & foreign virtual collaboration. The University also provides LAN access to online

journals through the HEC Digital library program.

The Department has highly benefited from the implementation of NED Smart University WiFi

and global EDUROAM WiFi projects in collaboration with HEC. This provides high speed,

secure Internet access to faculty and students with full carpet coverage within indoor and outdoor

premises and will improve the academic learning experience. In addition to above NED

University is also offering its users EDUGAIN services under European consortium GEANT to

share large data sets and files securely and officially resulting in improved research and

collaboration opportunities.

High Performance Computing Centre has been established by the University to facilitate students

and researchers in performing simulation and modeling activities over cutting edge HPC

Clusters. The Centre also provides University wide access to licensed engineering software like

MATLAB, Pro Engineer, ANSYS etc.

The Communication & Network Centre (CNC) of NED University provides state of the art

LAN /WAN services including website maintenance, I.T. support, inter and intra departmental

connectivity along with a variety of online database management services through portal. It

comprises of three sections namely:

1. Network Section

2. Portal Section

3. Web Section

The Communication & Network Centre carries out operation and maintenance of University

Network through Network Operation Centre (NOC) that is part of Network Section which

includes the centralized management of the Global as well as Campus wide connectivity and

provision of robust Internet service in addition to all sorts of timely I.T. hardware/Software

support and corporal management of the links between the departments.

NED University has a dedicated Portal Section which develops and hosts an integrated Students

Attendance Information System, Human Resource Management System and Financial

Information System. These systems play an important role in providing the needed information

in a timely and efficient manner. NED Portal makes possible accessing user related information

from the data sources spread across the University in a unified, secure, personalized web based

interface, by which faculty members and students can access their job related or academia related

information in a precise manner. Management Information Systems (MIS) which are backbone

of portal are Finance, Library, Attendance Information System (AIS), Student Information

System (SIS) and Human Resource management System (HRMS).

The Textile Engineering Department has fiber-optic connectivity and access of Wi-Fi network.

The department has the facilities and infrastructure to support new trends in learning. All

conference rooms, laboratories and class-rooms provide support for learning and faculty

members have been using these facilities. The department has the following facilities exclusively

dedicated to undergraduate students.

Textile Computer Laboratories

Department have two general purpose computing facilities (labs) where students are allowed to

perform general activities concerning their course work.

1. Textile Computer Lab

2. Soorty Computer Lab

The Textile Computer lab is equipped with forty (40) higher configuration PC’s along with six

multimedia projectors. Licenses are also available for Textile Weaving & Jacquard design

software like Design Scope Victor and YXENDIS.

New Soorty Computer lab has been developed with the generous contribution by Soorty

Enterprises Pvt Ltd. The facility was inaugurated by the honorable Mrs. Nargis Soorty and Mr.

Asad Soorty, Directors Soorty Denim, Pakistan along with Vice Chancellor Dr. Sarosh H.Lodi.

The well-furnished laboratory has been equipped with forty (40) high-end HP Workstations,

Samsung 55” UHD Display and Cisco Network Infrastructure.

These above mentioned labs are also used for conducting practical work of various courses and

trainings requiring the use of CAD software and powerful workstations. The above laboratories

are maintained by two qualified and experienced IT Managers with the support of three staff

members, who ensure the adequateness and smooth running of the Departmental IT

infrastructure.

List of Software available

The University has High Performance Computing Center (HPCC)

(https://hpcc.neduet.edu.pk/Resources). The HPCC Centre serves as a software repository for the

whole university which can be accessed by both faculty as well as students. The center houses

various licensed software repository. The list of currently available software is mentioned in
