1) The Legislative Branch – “the power of the purse”
Composed of the Senators, the District Representatives (Congressmen and Congresswomen), and the party list (sectoral) representatives; The Senate is also called the “upper house” and the House of Representatives is called the “lower house.” The district and sectoral representatives are elected with a term of three years. They can be reelected but they are no longer eligible to run for a fourth consecutive term. The senators are elected to a term of six years. They can be reelected but they are no longer eligible to run for a third consecutive term.4 In the legislative department lies the power to make, amend, repeal or abrogate laws.
