Content

Introduction:
This assignment is intended to introduce learners to intermediate techniques regarding animation and
the role it plays within the wider software workflow. The inclusion of existing imagery which has been
manipulated using Photoshop and the final polish of AfterEffects underpin and augment the organic
creativity which we have explored using Animate in year one.

The aim of this unit is to produce an artefact for a given audience. This will require you to investigate
and propose a chosen audience for your work before planning, designing and creating the loop. Once
done you will need to evaluate how good a fit your work was for your chosen audience. In order to do
this you’ll need to interview/survey people who fit your chosen audience and reflect on what they think of
your final piece.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Scenario:
You’ve been recruited by a Youtube channel to produce an animated loop for a given genre of ambient
music. You’re an animator who creates these pieces for a variety of types of ambience to fit a specified
audience. It should be fit for Youtube purposes and loop over 30-60 seconds.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Task 1: Research
Firstly, you have to propose a genre of ambient music and a specific audience which you will target your
work for. Once this is established you will show key examples of existing channels and works which you
feel either appeal to your given audience or possibly demonstrate a technique which you may use. All
research must be annotated in order to receive a mark. A worksheet will be provided to get you started
with this section.

Task 2: Design
You will need to produce plans and gather/edit assets for your intended loop. This will be submitted as a
production diary/blog and should include planning evidence for…
 Manipulation/cloning/healing of existing content which your chosen audience will appreciate.
You should show evidence in your design work of exploiting alpha channels, consideration of
layer depth and potentially any 3d elements or backgrounds you feel may fit.
 At least 3 stop motion loops demonstrating good registration, line work, colour, timing/pace and

styling which blends well with your chosen background and genre
 At least 3 tweens demonstrating good registration, line work, colour, timing/pace and styling
which blends well with your chosen background and genre. You could also consider scale,
position, transparency and rotation in your design trials.
 Trials of any additional post-animation effects you are thinking of using.

Task 3: Build
You must complete the proposed loop and upload it to Youtube for viewing, exploiting any skills you
have learnt so far. Once this has been done you will be required to provide an opportunity for your given
audience to give constructive feedback in a manner which will allow you to consider how successful your
designs were.

Task 4: Evaluate
You will need to consider how well your completed work has been received by your intended audience.
This should be in the form of a structured reflective evaluation which will be discussed in lectures and
some prompting questions will be supplied for. You will also have to reflect upon your own learning
during this project and personal development. Again, structure will be discussed in a lecture and
structured questions will be given to start you off.
