Good Will Hunting – 1997

Will Hunting is a janitor at Harvard, but he's smarter than the students or even the lecturers
there. One day, mathematics professor Gerald Lambeau writes a problem on the board and
says that he will give a prize to the one who solves it. None of the students can solve it. Will,
solves this question when no one is around. Then the professor sees that the problem has
been solved, but can't find out who solved it. Then the professor writes another question in
the middle of the class. This is a harder question than the previous one. Another day, as the
professor walks out of the classroom with his assistant, he sees Will answering the question
in the hallway. But he can't catch Will.
Will's circle of friends is not very good, it consists of vagrant types in general. Will and his
friends get into a fight while out on a tour. Then the police come and catch Will. While Will is
on trial, the professor seeks parole, and in return, Will takes a job with the professor. He also
goes to meet with therapists, but it pushes the therapists very hard. Then the professor
seeks help from his former roommate, psychiatrist Sean Maguire. Because the professor
sees Sean and Will as the same person at certain points.
All the while, Will meets Skylar at the bar. Skylar gives Will her number and they start seeing
each other. Around this time, Will goes with the psychiatrist, goes to the math professor,
sees the girl, and does some vagrancy with his friends. So he is in a confused period. He is
trying to find himself.
At one point, Skylar says she's going to medical school in California, and then Will breaks up
with her. Will occasionally works as a construction worker. He goes to the psychiatrist again
and the psychiatrist tells him that he can do whatever he wants Then he goes to the job
application that the professor found for him, but later changes his mind and sets off for
California in the car his friends bought him for his birthday. This is how the movie ends.

Overall I didn't like the movie. Side character main character distinction is not made well. So
we see the movie from the perspective of very different characters. This creates a disconnect
in the story. Even the friends around Will are depicted in some corners of the movie like the
main character. While writing the review, it left me in a dilemma about which one to tell first.
At the same time, the change of opinion is only told in the last few seconds, so that didn't
make much sense either. He could have set off directly without going to the job application. I
gave it 5/10 for Matt Damon's sake.
