A Reflection on the Movie Avatar

The movie, entitled "Avatar," talks about a moon in the alpha

Centuari star system called Pandora whose atmosphere is poisonous
to humans and is inhabited by na’vi, where humans mine a valuable
mineral called Unobtainium. The Na’vi lived in harmony with nature,
until Quaritch attempted to destroy the giant hometree where the
na’vi gathered and the location of the mineral Unobtainium, killing
many Na’vi.
This demonstrates that people will go to any length to obtain what
they desire. They don't care how it will affect people or the
environment. It symbolizes the anthropocentric belief. For me,
People's greed when they believe they can get something when they
really can't will have a big impact on the big picture.
in the movie, scientists use Na’vi-Human hybrids called “avatars”
and one of them is Jake Sully, the avatar of Jake Sully fell in love
with Neytiri. Jake became the way to unite the Na’vi again because
he loves the Na’vi.
Sometimes, no matter what our beliefs are, we can be a change for
the better, just like Jakes did. Even if he was used to being a spy for
the humans, he still helped the Na’vi because he loved them and was
willing to have a peaceful place where they could live happy. Jakes'
attitude represents ethnocentrism because he wants the human and
the Na’vi to be at peace. To have a pacified nature.
Often times, we are blinded by our pride and our greed that we can
no longer think of the bigger picture that it might hurt somebody and
that it might also affect us. But there are times when we also know
what the right things to do when we really love and value the things
we see.
