Solution 2055 Acoustic Detector

DESCRIPTION: The Solution 2055 is an acoustic based forced intrusion detector. It is designed to have a usable
frequency range of 50-7500 Hz. This frequency band conforms to that which has been established by U.L. for listed sound
detectors. The detector has the capability of measuring sounds in this frequency band from 50-101 dB in strength. Red
and green LEDs are visible from outside the detector housing for observation of the current status of the detector. There
are two jumpers provided to set the sensitivity of detection. An additional jumper enables the red LED to latch on after
detection. A variable level audio output is provided to allow connection to additional audio monitoring equipment.

COVER: The cover of the detector can be removed by inserting a small blade screwdriver in rectangular hole on the flat
end of the unit, pressing on the internal latch and gently lifting the cover away. The cover can be replaced by lining up the
tamper spring with the tube on the cover, inserting the small tab on the curved end of the case into the cover slot, and
gently pressing into place until the latch engages.

LOCATION: The proper mounting location for the detector will be on a ceiling or wall, away from any direct air flow. The
detector should be mounted a minimum of 6 inches from an adjacent wall or ceiling, and no less than 6 feet from the floor.
After a location has been selected, the detector should be securely mounted using the proper hardware. NOTE: This
detector is designed for indoor use only.

POWER: The two terminals marked 12V (+ and -) are the detector’s connection to an outside power source. Typically this
is a 12-volt nominal regulated DC supply from an alarm panel, however it may be unregulated or even AC as long as it
falls within the specifications listed below.

RELAY: The detector is configured with a failsafe normally closed alarm relay. That is to say, the terminals labeled ‘C and
NC’ will remain short circuited as long as power is applied and no alarm is being detected. Should the power source be
removed (or fall to low) the relay terminals will open. During an alarm condition, the relay will open for 2.5 seconds.

TAMPER SWITCH: The detector has a built in tamper switch (SW1), on terminals labeled ‘TAMPER’, which provide a
closed circuit condition when the cover is in place. When the cover is removed, the circuit is opened creating a tamper
condition. The supplied spring must be used on the switch and properly aligned with the tube on the cover to assure
proper operation.

AUDIO OUTPUT: A pre-amplified AC coupled audio output is provided on the terminal labeled ‘AUDIO’. This output may
be connected to most any kind of supplementary recording or remote monitoring equipment. The level from the terminal
may be adjusted using the potentiometer (R27) without interfering with the actual detection levels.

AUTOMATIC RESET: When the latching red alarm LED has been enabled (jumper J3 in place) the LED will flash for the
2.5 second period the alarm relay is active, then remain on continuously. The LED will remain on until the power is
interrupted for a 2-3 second period or a signal that goes from a positive voltage to a negative voltage appears on the
terminal labeled ‘RESET’.

TEST LED: The green LED is designed to be on at all times. It will turn off any time the acoustic level present is 10dB
greater then the ambient level. This LED operates independent of the actual detection algorithm.

SENSITIVITY: The detector’s sensitivity is set by the two jumpers labeled J4 and J5. The table below indicates which
relative and absolute dB levels will be used for detection based on the jumper settings. The relative level is the amount
above the current ambient level present. The absolute level is the threshold regardless of the ambient level.

J4 J5 Relative Absolute
Off Off 30dB 100dB
∗ On Off 25dB 95dB
Off On 20dB 90dB
# On On 15dB 85dB
Recommended Settings:
∗ Reverberant # Non-reverberant
SPECIAL NOTES:
n This unit is compatible with all controls rated 10 - 14 Volts.
n Test at least yearly by installer. Recommend using Caddx GT-2 Glass Break tester.
n Conditions that may cause false alarms: Fans, blowers, etc. / Proximity to rapidly changing temperature conditions.
n This detector has been tested and found to comply with the limits for a Class B digital device pursuant to Part 15 of
the FCC Rules. These limits are designed to provide reasonable protection against harmful interference in a
residential installation. Operation is subject to the following two conditions: (1) This device may not cause harmful
interference, and (2) this device must accept any interference received, including interference that may cause
undesired operation.
