Bench Vise - What do you mean by it?

 A vise is a quick method of holding and locating

relatively small and regular-shaped workpieces. It
consists of a base, table, screw, and fixed and movable
jaws.

 It is a common mechanical device that is used to hold a

workpiece stationary and is an integral tool in many
woodworking metalworking and other manufacturing
applications.

 The base has a projection or tongue which fits into the

slots of the machine table lugs are provided for clamping
the vise by T- bolts.

 The work is clamped between fixed and movable jaws

by rotating the screw. Whenever possible the vise is so
placed that the tool while cutting exerts direct pressure
upon the jaws.
 A machine vise may be classified under the following
categories
1. Plain vise
a) Single screw. b) Double screw
2. Swivel vise
3. Universal vise

 A bench vise that may be rotated on its base to bring the

work that it holds into a better position is called a Swivel
base vice.
Swivel Base Vise

 In a swivel vise the base is graduated in degrees, and the

body of vise may be swivelled at any desired angle on a
horizontal plane.

 The swivelling arrangement is useful in bevelling the

end of the workpiece. A universal vise may be swivelled
like a swivel vise .

 In addition to that, the body may be tilted in a vertical

plane up to 90 degrees from the horizontal.
 It is used to hold the small object tightly while grinding,
drilling, filling hammering, shaping etc operations are
performed.

 Swivel Base is indexed to 360 Degrees, when required

to use as stationary Vice, the base can be removed.
