The Southern Plateaus are located to the south of the
Central Mountains.

2. State the five tributaries of Indus River.


Chenab, Jhelum, Ravi, Beas and Sutlej.

3. Why do you think, the Great River Valleys are suitable


for agriculture?
The Great River Valleys are suitable for agriculture
because, many large rivers rise in the snow-covered
mountains and plateaus of the Central Highlands of Asia.
These rivers have brought down and deposited huge
amounts of Alluvium, giving rise to extensive fertile plains.

4. What kind of ocean currents are the Kuro Shio and the
Oya Shio?
The Kuro Shio current is warm ocean current and the Oya
Shio current is cold ocean current.

5. State Which countries are known as the monsoon lands


of Asia?
Countries like India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka,
Myanmar, Thailand, Laos, Vietnam, Cambodia, Philippines
and southern China are known as the monsoon lands of
Asia.

6. Give example of trees that flourish in the equatorial


type of climate.
Ebony, mahogany, cinchona and rosewood.

7. Name the regions of Asia that experience the Tundra


type of climate.
Beyond the Arctic Circle, northern Russia, bordering the
Arctic Ocean.

8. What are the Steppes? Where are they located?


Temperate grassland of Eurasia.
They are located south-western Siberia, eastern Mongolia.

9. Why do you think, the Mediterranean region does not


have adequate wildlife as compared with the other
climatic types?
The Mediterranean region does not have adequate wildlife
as compared with the other climatic types because, most of
the land has been cleared for agriculture. Thus, wild life is
scarce in this region.

10. Briefly describe the Taiga type of climate.


The Taiga type of climate is characterised by warm
summers, severely cold winters, low precipitation in the
form of snow, low rain in summer.
