ACTIVITY # 1
1.When must I provide PPE?
➢ PPE or Personal Protective Equipment must be provided by employers to an
employees who may be exposed to a risk to their health or safety while they are
at work and as long as the employees have already been trained or having
proper training which makes them understand the necessity of equipment they
wear, ease and comfort with which it can be used and the use and function of
PPE the wore on how it works to a certain hazard to prevent risk and they
already know how to manage such emergencies.

2.If employees wear eyeglasses with prescription lenses, may I consider these as eye
protection?
➢ Yes, as long as it passes the certain requirements which it provide sufficient
protection against particular hazard for which it is designed for, its durability,
easily cleaned, always clean and in good condition, it is comfortably to be worn in
certain conditions, fit snugly without affecting your movement or vision and
capable of being disinfected and also as long as it meet the ANSI standards.

3. Could employees wearing hard hats and working at elevations create a potential
hazard for the employees working below?
➢ Yes, because there are possibilities that they encounter risk from falling objects
because they are in the bottom and also they are still in danger zone which also
prone from electric shock and it still depends on the situation they are in.

4. Is there one kind of glove that will protect against all workplace hazards?
➢ No, there is no single glove that can be used for appropriate protection for every
work situation or to protect against a wide variety of hazards.

5. Why should workers be outfitted with the more expensive industrial respirators when
look alike “nuisance masks” are available?
➢ Workers must outfit with the expensive industrial respirators because nuisance
masks can be worn for comfort against non-toxic nuisance dust during activities
like gardening, sweeping and dusting and it is not offer protection against
hazardous dust, gases or vapor unlike respirator. Respirator wearers must
comply of medical certification, training and annual fit testing with the
requirements of MSU respiratory protection program and that is why it is the best
option to prevent risk from hazard.

6. Is cotton sufficient as earplugs?


➢ No, because cotton is not enough to block out high frequency sound and it would
provide protection from high sounds levels.

7. Once I have selected the specific PPE for my workers, how do I make sure they use
it properly?
➢ To make sure that the employee use the PPE properly is implement a thorough
training program which makes them understand the correct use and maintenance
of the equipment and also they will understand its importance on why is good to
have a protective equipment while at work and its limitation.

8. How often should hard hats be inspected?


➢ Hard hats should be inspected for every 4-6 months even if there is no event or
obvious reason that it stopped working unless it is involve for some incident
where it protected an employee and it should be inspected before it is used
again.

9. What is the proper way to dispose of PPE?


➢ There are types of PPE that can be dispose without much special treatment like
earplugs, hardhats, most gloves but depends on what was handle, and other
similar items. It is important to destroy properly these items to be unable to use
specially the damaged and outdated but in disposing of contaminated PPE like
gases, acids and biological contaminants. It is important to take steps to ensure
the contaminants aren’t release in an area where they could cause harm and the
hazmat team will take custody of the PPE and go through a process tailored to
the exact substance.

10. What PPE is used for working over dangerous equipment and machinery?
➢ PPE equipment that is used for are safety harness which primary to prevent
someone from falling and it is a three-point harness that is properly secured to a
sturdy base, slip prevention footwear which minimize the risk of slipping and
falling in dangerous environment, elbow or wrist support which ensure an
employee to have a strong support when working at heights, and other fall
prevention devices which include physical barriers, nets and more.
