Introduction
This report refers to non-conformances observed during the internal inspection on 06 July 2022 for
01. Item Nr. 2/03.10.22: ‘Installation of Cables and Wires’ (TN, FD, SA, LT, EM and PA systems) in
Kitchen corridor areas at level 04 in Building 2 (2.30-2.40/2.A-2.L)
02. Item Nr. 4/03.10.22: ‘Installation of Cables and Wires’ (LT, EM, and OE) in Toilet areas at level 07
in Building 2 (2.32-2.36/2.J-2.L)

02/03.10.22 - Kitchen corridor areas at level 04 (2.30-2.40/2.A-2.L)

Observation:
01. It was observed that smoke detectors were mounted without providing the adequate clearance
gap as per the standard. Below shown are examples only.

Figure 1: Smoke detector was mounted on the beam exceeding top 10% void height from top

Figure 2: Smoke detector was mounted close to the beam without maintaining minimum 500mm distance

02. It was observed that several fire detectors are obstructed by mechanical ducts and cable trays.
Below shown is an examples only.

03. Several smoke detectors were not securely fixed to the soffit.

Remarks and Recommendation:

As stated in BS 5839-1 detectors shall be relocated as follows,

 The areas containing horizontal voids over 800 mm, sensing element of the fire detector
should be places within top 10% of the void or within the top height of 125mm, whichever is
greater. And
 As stated in BS05839-1 smoke detectors should not be mounted within 500 mm from
obstruction where it's greater than 10% of room height (Ex: beams).
 Further to that if obstruction down-stand is greater than 10% of the room height, treated as
a wall. Therefore, above should be considered in relocating the detector and coverage area
requirement should satisfy as per the design.

Figure 5: Highlighted power provision was not provided as per the HKN-SPD-EL-OE-21107D1

Remarks and Recommendation:
