We warmly welcome you to Human Appeal’s Volunteers
Retreat, we look forward to hosting you and taking part in
some fun activities together.

Before having a read, please make sure you UPDATE ANY

DATES & TIMES

The retreat will take place from the 29th July to the 31st July

Day 1 - Friday 29/07/2022


Team Leaders & Staff only

Day 2 - Saturday 30/07/2022


All Volunteers arrive

Day 3 – Sunday 31/07/2022


Everyone departs in the afternoon
after activities

All volunteers must arrive between 10.30am - 11am.

For those who are having their transport arranged by Human Appeal, you will be provided
with times of coach, train and car pool departures.

An itinerary will be provided on the day.

ABOUT MOUNT COOK

Mount Cook is located in the Peak District with beautiful surroundings.


The address: Porter Ln, Middleton, Matlock DE4 4LS, United Kingdom
They provide a range of activities from archery, team challenges, high ropes and much
more.

WHAT IS PROVIDED?

Accommodation
 We provide accommodation and a safe place to stay
 Mount Cook provides pillows, duvets and bedding but please bring your own towels
 After a day of fresh air and activities, a good night’s sleep is very important! Standard
rooms have 2 comfy bunks, sleeping 3 people with an en-suite bathroom.
 Accessible rooms are also available for those who have issues with mobility

Food
 Mount Cook provides Halal catering, so no need to worry about your main meals as food
will be provided
 We do encourage you to bring snacks in case you feel peckish throughout the day

Activities
 We will make sure that your weekend is filled with exciting activities for you to take part
in
 We also understand that everyone needs some downtime, so we will arrange a movie
night to relax
 Professional experts to help you through the challenges
 A first aider will be on sight at all times

TRAVEL & SLEEPING ARRANGEMENTS

 Travel arrangements will be organised closer to the time, look out for more information
on the WhatsApp Group chats and emails.

 There will be separate sections for males and females and these will be on opposite
sides of the building.

 Within each section, rooms will be split between regions and you will be able to decide
what room you want to stay in for the weekend.

Clothing • Trousers for walking (we wouldn't advise on keans

• Hat & gloves (weather dependant)

• any medication you require including inhalers

• Snacks for yourself

CODE OF CONDUCT

We want all of you to have an amazing time but please do keep in mind that we are all still
representing Human Appeal and we have to act accordingly. Any misconduct that goes
against values of Human Appeal or goes against the rules of our host, Mount Cook, will be
dealt with accordingly.

- No behaviour that puts Human Appeal into disrepute or goes against our values.
- Be respectful towards staff and volunteers whether from Mount Cook or Human
Appeal.
- Offensive, profane and abusive language is unacceptable. Showing disrespect to
others, participants and staff alike, will not be tolerated in any manner.
- Participants understand that they may not physically or verbally hurt others, and
they will respect the feelings, safety and personal integrity of themselves and
others.
- Smoking and vaping is prohibited within the building
- Respect the boundaries of others.
- Get consent from said people before taking any pictures.
- Thievery of any kind is prohibited.
- Refrain from bringing valuables; Mount Cook & Human Appeal hold no
responsibility to loss & damage of any items.
- Don’t forget to have fun and enjoy yourselves!!!

FAQs

What should I do when I arrive?


Please report to the registration table, where a Human Appeal staff member will be there
to sign you in, and provide you with the information you need.

Is there a first aider on site?


A first aider will be available at all times, including on activity sessions and overnight. All
activity instructors carry first aid kits with them at all times and preform emergency drills
throughout the year.
Each member of the Volunteering Team are also trained as first aiders.

Can I bring my car and is there parking?


If you prefer to drive, there is parking for up to 40 vehicles in the car park opposite the main
entrance. It's a 2 minute walk from the car park to the front door. They also have accessible
car park spaces right outside the front door, as well as free charging for electric vehicles.

When can I check into my room?


Earliest available check into rooms is from 3pm, and latest check out of rooms is 10am. For
your actual arrival time at Mount Cook. We expect all volunteers to arrive between
10.30am and 11am and on the day of departure have everything packed and out of their
rooms by 10am.

Where can I keep my things once I have checked out?


We will have a safe space where you can put your things. Again, make sure you don’t bring
any valuables.

Can I take pictures?


You can take pictures but please be mindful that some volunteers will not want their
pictures taken. Please ask before taking pictures of someone else.

How will people know I don’t want my picture taken?
You will be provided with a red lanyard so people are aware you don’t want your picture
taken? Please obtain this when you come to the registration table.

FINAL NOTE

Lastly, don’t forget to enjoy yourselves. It’s our chance to say thank you for all the time and
effort that you spend on our events and our campaigns. You are an integral part of Human
Appeal and without you, it would be very difficult to raise all the funds and awareness that
we do!
It is not just Human Appeal you have aided, but you have helped change thousands of lives
through your volunteering journey so far and we hope that you continue to impact many
more.
