LESSON PLAN IN SCIENCE IV

Date: ___________________

Content Standards The learners should demonstrate understanding of the changes in properties of material when
exposed to certain conditions.

Performance
Standards The learners should be able to evaluate whether changes in materials are useful or harmful
to one’s environment.
Learning Identify the properties of solid materials when mixed with other solid materials.
Competency (S4MT – Ig – h-6)

1. OBJECTIVES 1.Identify the properties of solid materials when mixed with other
solid materials.
2.Describe what happens to the solid materials when mixed with other
solid materials
3.Recognize the importance of the materials

Preliminary Activities

 Classroom rules

1.Be on time
2. Observe health protocols
3.During the group activity everybody should cooperate and participate.
4. Sit properly and must face front.
5. Raise your hands when you want to answer
6.When the teacher is talking everybody should listen
7.Do not answer in chorus.
8.Avoid running inside the classroom and observe safety at all times
9.Keep your place clean.

ELICIT Review

What happened to the solid materials when heated? when cooled?

When the solid materials are heated, they changed their size, shape, and texture.
They also changed their forms. When cooled, the liquid materials were changed to solid.

Motivation
Show a picture of “benignit”

1. Have you tried eating benignit?

2. Did you noticed the ingredients of benignit?
3. Can you still identify the ingredients
that are being mixed?
(Answers should come from the pupils).

IP-Related

Did you know class, that I have experienced eating benignit served by the Lumad people
when I was still teaching in Sagasaan ES. Me and my co teachers visited the community
of our Lumad’s pupil. They have prepared and served us their special benignit. They
said,it is special because of the “dinorado rice” that they have mixed in the benignit. It is
just a simple benignit, It composed of saging saba, camote, balanghoy, coconut milk or
gata and dinorado rice.

ENGAGE
Presentation

Teacher shows a picture of fruit salad

Ask questions

1. . What is in the picture?

2. Have you seen somebody preparing a fruit salad?
3. What are some ingredients of fruit salad?
4. In this picture of fruit salad, can you identify the ingredients?
5. After mixing all the ingredients of fruit salad, can you still identify the ingredients?

? Teacher say:

In fruit salad, all the solid and liquid ingredients should be combined/mixed.
And when you mixed or combined two or more materials together , you prepared a
mixture.

In our next activity,

You will investigate what happens when solid materials are mixed with other solid
materials

Group Work
EXPLORE .
1.Organize the class into 3 groups.
2.Check all the materials needed in each group.
3.Give the necessary instruction in doing the activity
4. Let the pupils do the activity .
5. Supervise the pupils while they are doing the activity..
6.Give the precautionary measures.
 Teacher should keep on reminding the pupils to give importance on safety
handling/keeping and using of solid materials .

Group1 – mix powdered detergent and rock salt

mix white sugar and vetsin

Group 2 - mix flour and baby powder

mix white sugar and vetsin

Group 3- mix brown sugar and magic sarap

mix sand and pebbles
(See attached the activity sheets)

ANSWER
QUESTIONS YES NO

1. Did the two solid materials

mixed together?
2. Can you still
identify/distinguish each solid
material in the mixture?
3. Did the resulting mixture look
the same throughout?
4. Did the solid materials mixed with
other solid materials change their
size, shape and color?

EXPLAIN
Discussion

 Let the group representative present the results of the activity.

 Teacher will present a video clip about the properties of solid materials mixed
with other solid materials.

 After the video , the teacher will have a short review on the video clip showed by
asking questions to pupils..

Generalization
What happened to the solid materials when mixed with other solid materials?

Have the pupils understand the concepts:

 WHEN SOME SOLID MATERIALS ARE MIXED WITH OTHER SOLIDS

AND FORMS A UNIFORM APPEARANCE OR THAT EVERY MATERIAL
CANNOT BE IDENTIFIED/DISTINGUISHED FROM EACH OTHER IS
CALLED HOMEGENEOUS MIXTURE

 WHEN SOME SOLID MATERIALS ARE MIXED WITH OTHER SOLIDS

AND EACH OF THE COMBINED MATERIALS CAN BE EASILY
IDENTIFIED/DISTINGUISHED FROM ONE ANOTHER ,THIS IS CALLED
HETEROGENEOUS MIXTURE.

 The properties of each solid material in the mixture do not change. The size,
shape, color of each solid material remains the same even after mixing.
