Writing News Report using the Given Facts.
News reports are found in newspapers and their purpose is to inform readers of
what is happening in the world around them. News reports have a certain structure
that you need to follow. This structure is sometimes called the Inverted Pyramid.
The Inverted Pyramid
A writer puts the most important facts at the beginning and works ‘down’ from
there. Preferably, the first paragraph should contain enough information to give the
readers a good overview of the entire story. News is written in the inverted pyramid
style – four of the essential “5W” elements usually are contained in the lead
paragraph of the news article.
