THREATS FOR SHOUKAT KHANUM HOSPITAL

Due to the political involvement of the Imran Khan, PTI Chairman, Shoukat Khanum Hospital
has been severely politicized and tried to damage its reputation. An allegation was levelled by a
political party that Imran Khan allegedly lost a huge sum of money donated to Shoukat Khanum
Hospital in a real estate gamble. The leaders of political party (Political Threat) questioned the
decision to invest in real estate, especially in another nation. The political party added that, in
contrast to SKMCH&RC, NGOs favour making investments in prestigious cities like London,
Manhattan, etc. Such allegations have damaged the reputation of Shoukat Khanum Hospital and
created doubts in the minds of the donors. Hence it reduced the trust of donors on transparency
of charity funds being donated to Shoukat Khanum Hopital. Moreover, involvement of Imran
Khan’s family in the running of the hospital makes it susceptible to criticism. Political opponents
criticize that money being donated by the donors is used by Imran Khan in political activities
rather than treatment of poor cancer patients.
Moreover, political opponents may impose sanctions on SKMCH & RC by amending rules &
regulation of non profit organization when they get power or government to politically and
financial damage the Imran Khan.
The current economic situation (Economic Threat) has limited the Governments to spend much
on social services, welfare of people and donations to nonprofit and charitable organizations like
Shoukat Khanum Hospital, Edhi Foundation etc who are involved in free treatment of poor
cancer patients and social work. Moreover, the current inflation, economic deterioration has also
made it difficult for the donors & common people to spare money for such charitable
organization to deal with humanitarian activities, to meet the expenses of Hospital and provide
free treatment services to poor patients. As these organization are run through the donations of
international organizations, donor agents, people and governments therefore the operations,
functioning and services of such organization will effect due to less availability of funds. Hence,
Shoukat Khanum Hospital also may face the threat of economic situation.
The new inventions in the hospital industry may boost the efficiency of the organization due to a
rapid shift in technology (Technological Threat). The organization like Shoukat Khanum
Hospital may enhance the efficiency and quality in investigating the patients, diseases and
innovations by adopting latest technology. Due to fierce competition in the hospital industry,
technology has provided added advantages to deal with patients. Latest state of the art
technology has made it easier to deal with complicated diseases cases, investigation of cancer
patients and provision of best health facilities. Hospitals who are not adopting the latest
technology trends & equipment may face severe threat for existence in the market. In order to
support technological advancements and development, the company has been forced to increase
its R&D spending. The organization is being forced by the environmental issues to employ high
technology, which is regarded to be environmentally benign and uses fewer non-biodegradable
products.
The growing environmental sustainability trends (Environmental Threat) represent a severe
threat to hospital industry when offered services or products / technologies used in the hospital
are not environmentally friendly. In a competitive market, it harms the brand's reputation and
draws disapproval and criticism from environmentalists. Government policies and environmental
conscious patients / customers are seen as one of the largest threats to the hospital industry.
The revolution in the Hospital Industry and introduction of latest state of the art cancer hospitals
(Threat of Competitors) all around the Pakistan have posed intense threat to Shoukat Khanum
Hospital. Due to availability of best health care and treatment facilities at all major cities of
Pakistan has reduced the number of patient in take in Shoukat Khanum Hospital which will also
reduce overall revenue of the organization. Hence, SKMCH & RC is required to take all
necessary steps and adopt the latest technologies, operational and treatment equipment, best
health facilities, engage professional doctors / professors and researchers to have competitive
edge.
Since the SKMCH & RC is being run with the donation of the people therefore the increase in
charity based and non profit organizations (Threat of Rivals) like Edhi Foundation, Ansar Burni
Trust, Agha Khan Foundation, Akhuwat Foundation, Saylani Trust etc have increased threat to
SKMCH & RC. The donors now have multiple options to donate the money to serve the poor
and deserving people. Donors will donate the money where they feel transparency in the system,
trust and best utilization of the donation. Thus this will decrease the share of donation for
SKMCH & RC and increase threat from rivals to grab the share of donation.
Finally, it is well understood that the SKMCH & RC is run by Imran Khan and people donate
money due to his prominent personality. In case, the death of Imran Khan, people will start to
divert the donation to other charity based and social welfare organizations who have good
reasons & noble causes for utilization of donations. Thus the non-existence of Imran Khan is also
a threat to the existence of Shoukat Khanum Hospital.
