Muggsy Bogues
Muggsy Bogues
Henry: Good afternoon/morning, I am Andrew Neil and today we will be interviewing Muggsy
Bogues. Good morning Muggsy.
Henry: So, would you like to tell us how you became the 12 th best NBA player in history, being 5 foot
3?
Oscar: Yes. Mainly through determination and attitude. I also had to deal with bullies which was very
hard, but deep inside, I always knew that I could make it to where I am now.
Henry: Hmmm, yeah. But there was one bully in particular, am I right?
Oscar: Ok…
(Ruben comes in and takes a seat next to Henry, and Oscars face is surprised)
Henry: Hello Mr ( )
Ruben: Yes. When we were younger I could see that Muggsy was a good player, but me and mi gang
thought that we had more of a chance to become professionals but we were obviously wrong. Looks
like size don’t matter, in it? ( Henry and Oscar both nod)
Henry: Hmmm. So, Muggsy, you were also offended by what Michael Jordan said to you when you
were both playing a playoff series against each other.
Oscar: Yes. I remember very well. We were tied 2-2 in the series and we had a chance to win the 5 th
match. I received the ball and was planning to pass it. Michael was in front of me and said: ‘shoot if
you can f------ midget’. So I shot and missed. I think that that single play ruined the rest of my career.
Henry: So, getting back to the interview, how did you manage to play basketball not having too much
money when you were a child?
Oscar: Well, it was very hard living among drugs and gunfire, but when we played basketball, we
used to hang an open-bottomed milk crate to the fence so they would become the baskets and we
played with them.
Ruben: Yeah, I remember. Me and mi friends came along, kicked ‘em out (I regret that now), and we
used their ‘hoops’ to play.

Wingate.
