This document summarizes Ms. Huang's plans to use IXL and Khan Academy for her 8th grade math class to practice operations with integers. Students will use IXL for individualized practice problems and receive explanations for mistakes. They will also use Khan Academy which provides step-by-step video tutorials. For a project, students will work in groups to create 20-minute tutorial lessons demonstrating integer operations using the styles of IXL or Khan Academy.

WHAT'S IN THIS Tutorials MONTH'S ISSUE: Using programs to enhance Welcome back to another great year! practice inside and outside Our students are excited to begin using the classroom to master IXL is an integrated technology source operations with integers. inside and outside the classroom. Students will begin using IXL Students have received their Chrome books and Khan Academy to and their access usernames and passwords. enhance and hone their skills. Starting Monday, we will be using IXL to practice operations with integers. The students will be introduced to the material Friday in class on paper but practice on IXL. IXL provides individualized education that helps students learn at their own pace with tutorial videos on each question. Students will complete practice problems until they receive a full score and are given the chance to understand mistakes. IXL provides explanations and further practice below to revisit concepts. Students will move up in difficulty in practice. They have been introduced to integer addition and subtraction rules. The following lessons will progress from adding and subtracting single integers to three or more integers. Once the students have mastered number problems, we will practice word problems on IXL. Homework will be assigned regularly with IXL as a practice and studying tool. In the following week, we will move to multiplying and dividing integers. Students will have the opportunity to seek additional help during lunch periods if necessary. IXL will show all the students' progress and I will be tracking it daily. Parents are encouraged to complete further practice with their children at home. Attached are images of sample problems IXL has. Students are given encouragement and feedback on their work. They are also taught visually with number lines and able to see how much time is spent practicing.
