INTRODUCTION
A DC generator is an electrical machine whose main function is to convert
mechanical energy into electricity. A direct current (DC) generator works on the
principle that a voltage is induced in a conductor coil when it is rotated in a magnetic
field. The rate at which the coil rotates in the magnetic field determines the amount
of voltage induced in the coil. Generally, following three characteristics of DC
generators are taken into considerations: (i) Open Circuit Characteristic (O.C.C.), (ii)
Internal or Total Characteristic and (iii) External Characteristic. For this lab
experiment, there will be three steps of experiment to carry out the three
characteristics of the DC generator which are seperate, compound and shunt excited
DC generator.

DISCUSSION
In conclusion, we discovered and noted the key distinctions between a DC shunt
motor and a DC series motor, and we discovered when to use each type of motor.
Regarding the dc separately excited generator, we studied its operation's
fundamentals and became familiar with some of the parameters that are used to
assess dc motor generator performance. As a result, we came to understand many
significant relationships between these parameters, and we learned how to take
accurate measurements while altering one and observing the impact on the others.

CONCLUSION

Finally, to modify If the field windings are connected in series with an external
resistance. As the field current is reduced, the motor's speed increases, and speed
control above the base speed is achieved. The speed versus armature current
characteristic is depicted. Changing the armature circuit resistance affects both
current and flux. The voltage drop in the variable resistance reduces the applied
voltage to the armature, lowering the motor's speed.
