Introductory Message

For the Facilitator:

Welcome to the Alternative Delivery Mode for Understanding Culture,


Society, and Politics of the Grade 12 Senior High School students, Module 6: Social
Organizations.

This module was collaboratively designed, improved and scrutinized by


educators by the department of education to assist you to facilitate our learners
achieve the goals set by the K to 12 Curriculum in the limits of their home as they
overcome their physical, personal, social and economic difficulties.

This learning material or modality aspire to support and sustain the


learner’s need of continuous learning into guided and independent learning
activities at their own measure and time. With their present circumstances, the
learners will able to engage their 21st century skills.

As a facilitator, you are expected to orient the learners on how to use this
learning resource. You also need to keep track of the learners' progress while
allowing them to manage their own learning. Furthermore, you are expected to
encourage and assist the learners as they do the tasks included here.

For the learner:

Welcome to the Alternative Mode of Delivery (ADM) of the Department of


Education. Here in this mode of Learning you are being engaged in the process
yourself guided by the given instructions for Understanding Culture, Society, and
Politics of the Grade 12 Senior High School students, Module 6: Social
Organization. In this learning material you will disclose yourself by showing your
strengths and weaknesses with yourself courageous to face the odds of life like
confusion, rejection and depression you will gain more self- confidence.

This module was designed to provide you with useful and meaningful
opportunities for guided and independent learning at your own pacing and time. In
your journey of learning, you will actively involve yourself to the learning process.

Important Terminologies in Social Groups

Social group consists of two or more people who identify with and interact
with one another (Macionis, 2012).

Primary group is a small social group whose members share personal and
lasting relationships (Macionis, 2012).

Secondary group is a large and impersonal social group whose members


pursue a specific goal or activity (Macionis, 2012).

In-group is a social group toward which a member feels respect and loyalty
(Macionis, 2012).

Out-group is a social group toward which a person feels a sense of


competition or opposition (Macionis, 2012).

Network is a group containing people who come into occasional contact but
who lack a sense of boundaries and belonging (Macionis, 2012).

Reference group is a social group that serves as a point of reference in


making evaluation and decisions (Macionis, 2012).
