JOSE RIZAL MONUMENT
The Shrine of Dr. Jose Rizal is one of the most heritage-built near St.
Gregory The Great Parish Church is also a tourist spot in Majayjay Laguna.
The Puente del Capricho, also known as Tulay Pigi by the natives, is the bridge
of caprice. The two awful names give away what kind of man designed it.
Victoriano Del Moral, a Franciscan friar with a bad reputation among the natives,
is mentioned by Rizal in his book. The locals rose up in opposition as a result of
his desires and harshness, which is why the bridge's construction was never
finished.
In the quiet town of Majayjay, Laguna, there is an old bridge that was never
finished, but its beauty and elegance were so legendary that it found its way in
the pages of Jose Rizal’s El Filibusterismo.
According to records, the Puente del Capricho was built sometime in 1851 over
the Olya River in Laguna.
