GADvocacy PITCH COMPETITION GUIDELINES

MECHANICS AND GUIDELINES

WHAT IS AN ADVOCACY?
Advocacy is a process that seeks to change structures that are unequal and unfair. It involves
challenging
and influencing people using a shared strategic plan. This plan must be based on evidence and
the real-
life experiences of those who are demanding the change and those who are affected by the
issue.
Advocacy must have a strategy that is evidence- and experienced-based that analyses a
problem,
develops a solution, identifies the decision-makers, and develops strategic tactics to target
them.
WHAT IS A PITCH?
A pitch is a speech or message intended to spur decision-makers to action. A good pitch must
be short,
specific, and memorable.
