MESSAGE
I am happy to learn that Kendriya Vidyalaya IIT Powai is publishing the next edition of the School Magazine even
under these tough times. The School Magazine is an important publication of the Vidyalaya that showcases the varied talents of our
students and teachers. I am sure that even for this year, we will have excellent contributions for the School magazine. Engaging
students at this young age for such constructive and creative work is extremely beneficial in long run, as these are the good
memories they carry forward for their future. I really appreciate that our teachers took a great initiative to continue publishing this
magazine during this difficult period of the pandemic.
MESSAGE
It is a matter of pride for all of us that Kendriya Vidyalaya IIT Powai is one of the topmost ranked Kendriya Vidyalayas
in the country and keeping a high standard continuously over a long period. The credit goes to the talent and hard work of our
students, and the dedication, innovativeness, and hard work of our teachers and staff. I fall short of words to congratulate them for
continuing the teaching and learning in such a great spirit during the last couple of years. The school has consistently excelled in
curricular and co-curricular activities over the years. However, the way our teachers put an effort to continue teaching and other
academic activities, and the way our students and their parent accommodated themselves to overcome all the obstacles created by
the pandemic, is highly admirable. In our Vidyalaya, we believe that the socioeconomic backgrounds of our students should not
hamper the education and knowledge provided to them.
I can proudly say that our teachers have tried their best to reach out to all the students to enhance the teaching-
learning experience even during this covid period with great care and dedication. This is easier said than done, and it is highly
commendable that our teachers have continually innovated and taken special measures to reach out to most of our students. By
saying that we should remember that in some instances, we fail to contact all of them due to unforeseen circumstances, which tells
that we need to keep up the good work. However, I hope and wish that this pandemic ends soon and we get back to our normal
school days where kids again enjoy the quality learning time being in the school.

पविका एक मंच है जहााँ अविव्यवि को प्रवतकूल पररवथथवतयों में प्रदवशष त करने का अवसर वमला है| वैविक आपदा
कोरोना ने ववि को एक चुनौती दी मगर मनुष्य का लक्ष्य तो “चरै वेवत चरै वेवत” रहा है | उसने तकनीक और मे धा के
मवि–कांचन योग से,चलते रहने के मल ू मंि को जीवन के प्रत्येक क्षेि में साकार वकया है | वशक्षा के क्षेि में यह अपने
प्राचीन आश्रम पद्धवत जैसी होकर वचष ुअल संसाधनों से घर आाँगन में प्रवतवित हु ई |
कोववड प्रोटोकाल में संयम,अनुशासन में रहकर ववद्यालयी गवतवववधयााँ छं दात्मक राग बनी हैं |
वचष ुअल और ई तकनीक आज के समय की यथाथष वदनचयाष हैं | ववद्यालय पविका का यह संथकरि इसी चयाष का

अवथतत्व के वलए सामावजक दूरी को रक्षा कवच के रूप में अपनाना पड़ा| प्रचवलत व्यवथथाओं की जगह वैकवल्पक व्यवथथाएं
अपनाई गईं|घर ववद्यालय बन गए ,घर कायाष लय बन गये| चौराहे वीरान हो गये| बाज़ार बेज़ार हो गये| पर आदमी ने हार नहीं मानी|
जब तक दवाई नहीं तब तक विलाई नहीं,के थवानुशासन से उसे सुरवक्षत रखा |ऑनलाईन पढ़ाई के कारि ववद्यालय का प्रांगि
सन ू ा है मगर उसकी सजष ना नहीं| यह प्रवतकूल दौर बीतने को है सुखद समय के आगमन का आिास होने लगा है -

गवतवववधयों-पाठ्य सहगामी,खे लकूद,थकाउट-गाइड,ओलवपपयाड, एक िारत-श्रेि िारत, थवच्छता अवियान,वचिकला आवद
प्रवतयोवगताओं मे िाग लेने वाले छािों की वववशष्ट उपलवधधयााँ प्रकावशत हैं| पविका में प्रशवथत-प्रशथत तथा अपनी उपलवधधयों से
ववद्यालय नाम रोशन करने वाले समथत छािों को बधाई एवं उज्जज्जवल िववष्य की शुिकामनाएाँ |

1. CBSE Class X Results -2021
80 students out of 187 scored 90 % and above.
7 students in Maths , 5 students in Sanskrit, 4 in English and 1 student in Science, Social -.
Science and Hindi scored 100 out of 100 marks.
Master S. Shravan & Kumari Anshita Sharma , Class-X secured 498 marks out of 500 (99.60% )
and bagged 3rd position at All India Level in AISSE-2021.

2. CBSE Class XII Results -2021

20 students out of 105 scored 90% and above. 1 student in Biology and 1 in English scored
100 out of 100 marks.

3. KV IIT Powai represented KVS Mumbai Region at EBSB- KVS National Level Programme (Azadi
Ka Amrit Mahostav ) 2021-22 (Category-Group Song) .

4. Master Madhav Pillai, X C got selected for KVS National Inspire Award.

5. Olympiads- International Level Olympiads : Our students proved their mettle in International
Level Olympiads too. Total 42 students participated (Online Mode) at International Society For
Olympiad (ISFO) 01 student bagged Gold Medal, 5 students won Silver medals, 3 students
received Bronze Medals and in SOF IGKO Olympiad (International Level), 75 students
participated (Online Mode ) & 2 students won Gold Medals.

6. Mrs. MAMATA BHATTACHARYA, Principal received AKS Education Awards- Global Principals ‘
Award. The award was conferred on 20th June, 2021.

7. NCC Unit (25 Boys and 23 Girls) has been started in KV IIT Powai. The school has received
approval for Junior Division- Junior Wing from session 2021-2022.

Mr. Dinesh Patel, PGT (CS) created an

artificially intelligent humanoid robot named
‘Robot Shalu’ like Robot Sophia. As per the
DD News report, ‘Robot Shalu’ is the first
humanoid robot in the world which can
speak 9 Indian Languages and 38 Foreign
Languages.
Mr. Dinesh Patel has also received a
certificate from the Ministry of Corporate
Affairs for creating World’s first artificially
intelligent Social and Educational humanoid
robot from waste material.

िारत थकाउट्स एं ड गाइड्स िारत का राष्रीय थकाउवटंग और मागष दशष क संघ है । मैं 2015
से थकाउट के रूप में इस एसोवसएशन का वहथसा रहा हं।
थकाउट्स को उनके व्यवित्व को ववकवसत करने और उन्हें राज्जय के वफादार सदथय
बनाने की दृवष्ट से प्रवशवक्षत वकया जाता है, प्रवशक्षि मुख्य रूप से खुली हवा की गवतवववधयों के
माध्यम से वदया जाता है और थकाउट्स को साहसी और पहल में सीमावती, आवदवावसयों और
खोजकताष ओ ं के उदाहरिों का पालन करने के वलए प्रोत्सावहत वकया जाता है। प्रवीिता के वलए
बैज की एक ववथततृ प्रिाली है जो लड़कों को अपने प्राकृवतक उपहारों को ववकवसत करने और
चौतरफा अप्रेंवटस बनने के वलए प्रोत्सावहत करती है। थवािाववक रूप से, अपने उच्च उद्दे श्यों,
वथतुओ ं और कायष िमों के साथ, थकाउवटंग प्रशंसा के पाि हैं; यह आंदोलन अपने व्यापक दायरे
और मानवीय उद्दे श्यों के कारि प्रशंसनीय है। थकाउवटंग व्यावहाररक प्रवशक्षि के माध्यम से
ववद्यावथष यों के शारीररक और नैवतक दोनों गुिों का ववकास करती है। इसवलए इसे थकूलों और हावदयक यादि, XI
कॉलेजों में वशक्षा का एक आवश्यक वहथसा माना जाना चावहए। राज्य परुस्कार स्काउट
मैं और मे रा दल वजसमें 5 लोग शावमल हैं, िारत थकाउट्स और गाइड्स से जुड़े क्लथटर और क्षेिीय थतर के वशववरों में शावमल हु ए हैं।
हमने ततृ ीया सोपान और राज्जयपरु थकार वशववर को सफलतापवू ष क पाररत वकया है। मैं और मे री सेना जनवरी में एक राष्रीय थतर के वशववर
[राष्रपवत थकाउट पुरथकार वशववर] में िाग लेने जा रहे हैं। हाल ही में मैं और मे रे एक थकाउट वमि ने 15 से 17 अक्टूबर 2021 तक अक्टूबर में
आयोवजत जोटा-जोती जंबोरी कायष िम में िाग वलया। जोटा-जोती दुवनया का सबसे बड़ा वडवजटल थकाउट कायष िम है जो आिासी रूप में हो

नदी महोत्सव इस साल आजादी के 75 साल और आजादी का अमत ृ महोत्सव के

चल रहे समारोहों के एक वहथसे के रूप में मनाया गया था। इस वर्ष का उद्दे श्य िारत में
ववविन्न नदी घावटयों को साफ करना और 'नदी उत्सव‘ को बढ़ावा देना था, वजसे
प्रधानमंिी नरें द्र मोदी ने 26 वसतंबर 2021 को ववि नदी वदवस के अवसर पर उजागर वकया
था ।
हमारे दे श में सवदयों से नवदयों से जुड़ी परं पराओं से जुड़ने के वलए थकाउट्स एं ड
गाइड्स ने पास के पवई झील की सफाई और आसपास के इलाकों से प्लावथटक हटाने का
काम अपने हाथ में ले वलया। केन्द्रीय ववद्यालय पवई में नदी महोत्सव समारोह के एक िाग
के रूप में इस सुनहरे अवसर को ग्रहि वकया गया ।

नेतत्ृ व, अनुशासन, एकता, साहवसक कायष वसखाता है। एन.सी.सी.
करना एक ऐसा कोसष है जो मेरी वदनचयाष में बहु त बड़े बदलाव लाने
के वलए वजपमेदार है। एक कैडे ट का जीवन अन्य छािों से काफी
अलग होता है। प्रत्येक कैडे ट को सुबह एनसीसी सि में शावमल होना

एक कैडे ट होने के नाते हमें अनुशावसत, शारीररक और मानवसक रूप से थवथथ

होना चावहए। एक एनसीसी कैडे ट के वलए समय की पाबंदी बहु त महत्वपि ू ष है।
सामान्य जीवन में 1 वमनट कुछ िी नहीं हो सकता है, लेवकन एक कैडे ट के वलए 1
वमनट में 60 सेकेंड का समय होता है जो काफी बड़ा अंतराल होता है। एनसीसी की वदी
मुझे वसखाती है वक जीवन में सब कुछ उवचत और अनुशावसत तरीके से करना चावहए।
यहां एकता की िावना, देशिवि की िावना और बवलदान के मल्ू य को बढ़ावा वदया
जाता है। संक्षेप में, रक्षा के वलए वजपमेदार जीवन एक नागररक की तुलना में बहु त
शानदार है। मेरा मुख्य उद्दे श्य एनसीसी में शावमल होना है अनुशासन सीखना, मजबत ू
बनना, अवधक आत्मवविासी बनना, समय का पाबंद बनना है।

DREAMS COME TRUE WHEN WE WORK HARD
Since my childhood, I had a dream of joining
the “Indian Army”. I was always fascinated by their
‘Courage’, ‘Discipline’, ‘Fitness’ and ‘Moral values’. I
always dreamt of wearing a uniform like them.
I have heard that NCC is an organization
which provides leadership skills and motivates
youth for service of the nation. It also provides a
suitable environment for the youth to take up a
career in the Indian Armed Force.
I felt elated when NCC was started in our
school. I felt really happy, my dream of wearing
NCC uniform was finally going to come true. The
two Officers from NCC unit, IITB conducted two
sessions in offline mode and briefed us about
weapons and shooting.
As an NCC Cadet I have come to know the
various social causes that the organization
undertakes. I am proud to be an NCC Cadet, the
reasons are many but the most important one is
unity and discipline.

The NCC wing of KV IIT Powai organized Puneet
Sagar and River Festival as part of its Community
Development activity. We decided to clean a beach
first but due to covid restrictions we could only clean
the Powai Lake Side.
It was really a great experience for me as well
as for other cadets. We started a foot hike at 7.00 in
the morning. The sun rays glistened and the bracing
air refreshed us.
The Hike was inaugurated by respected
Principal, Mr Mithilesh Kumar Singh. We picked up
the trash and put it in the dustbin. It helped us to
realize the importance of clean environment and our
responsibility to ensure a happy, clean and healthy
environment. It made us connected to the
environment and nature.
The experience enhanced several qualities such
as team work , leadership and camaraderie. I am
glad to be a part of the NCC. It develops not only the
spirit of patriotism but also the overall personality of
a person.

भारत सुंविधान के द्वारा िावसत है| भारतीय सुंविधान वजसे 26 निुंबर 1949 को सुंविधान सभा द्वारा अपनाया
िया और 26 जनिरी, 1950 को लािू वकया गया । यिा पीढ़ी और जन-जन में सुंविधान के महत्ि को सदृढ़ करने के वलए, भारत
सरकार ने एक राजपि द्वारा 2015 में 26 निुंबर को सुंविधान वदिस के रूप में मनाने की घोषणा की ।
भारतीय सुंविधान के बारे में जािरूकता फैलाने और छािों में देिभवक्त की भािना पैदा करने के वलए केंरीय
विद्यालय आईआईटी पिई में सुंविधान वदिस समारोह मनाया िया ।
टीजीटी सामावजक विज्ञान िीमती आकाुंक्षा धयाल ने प्रस्तािना के अथय पर बात की और न्द्याय, स्ितुंिता, समानता और बुंधत्ि
को िब्दों के अथय के माध्यम से सुंविधान के दियन को समझाया। उन्द्होंने सुंविधान, मैं उवल्लवखत मौवलक अवधकारों और मौवलक
कतयव्यों के महत्ि पर भी प्रकाि डाला। इसके बाद टीजीटी सामावजक विज्ञान िी आर आर िािुंडे द्वारा प्रस्तािना की िपथ
वदलाई । सभा स्थल "हम भारत के लोि ........." िब्दों से िूूँज उठा ।
उप-प्रधानाचायय िी वमवथलेि कमार वसुंह ने सुंविधान के इवतहास से उसके ितयमान स्िरूप तक की यािा
पर प्रकाि डाला। अपने सुंबोधन में उन्द्होंने कहा, "सुंविधान वकसी देि की राजनीवतक व्यिस्था की नींि है; वजसके तहत उसके
लोि िावसत होते हैं । उन्द्होंने यह भी कहा वक मौवलक कतयव्य और अवधकार दोनों एक दूसरे से प्रिावहत होते हैं । उन्द्होंने प्रत्येक
नािररक को राष्र के प्रवत अपने कतयव्यों को िुंभीरता से लेने की आिश्यकता पर बल वदया । इसके अलािा, उन्द्होंने छािों को
भारत को िवक्तिाली बनाने के वलए अपने कतयव्यों का पालन करने के वलए प्रेररत वकया ।

AWAKENED CITIZEN PROGRAM

“The infinite strength and potential inherent in every child can
be manifested as wonderful possibilities in every walk of life.”

One of the major problems confronting us today is that

children seem to be growing up stressed and confused because
they are not armed with the right tools to face real-life problems
and make the right choices. The Awakened Citizen Program
emphasizes that each child is unique and has infinite potential;
education is the unfolding of this potential which can be
manifested as excellence in every walk of life. The program is
designed in a discussion-oriented manner where the students
analyze various explorations, real life situations and role models.
The students think, discuss and discover the consequences of
various choices and hence get armed with a decision-making
framework for life. The program does not impose any dos and
don’ts, but enables the children to develop faith in themselves,
discover values and make responsible choices.
The key message of the program is that each individual
has infinite strength, infinite potential, and infinite goodness. This
power and strength can be felt, every time we say “I CAN”. The
faith in this strength is called Atmashradha and is the basis to
awakening several human possibilities that are open to us. For the
purpose of the program the possibilities are broadly classified into
two categories- Universal Possibilities (six possibilities open to
all of us) and Unique Possibilities (based on our talents, interests,
environment and self-effort) which are further classified into
physical (six) and knowledge (six) possibilities. Awakening the
unique possibilities makes us significant contributors in our
chosen field.

 SAKURA SCIENCE HIGH SCHOOL PROGRAM

On 20 November, 2021, Department of School Education and

Literacy invited 25 students from KVS for online university visit under
Sakura Science High School Program. I, Anshita Sharma, a student of
class 11, Kendriya Vidyalaya IIT Powai was one of the invited
attendees of the program. The webinar started with an overview of
Ochanomizu University by a graduate student. This was followed by a
science talk on “Computational Biology for Entomology and
Entomophagy”.
The talk was on developing new
technologies for breeding crickets as it can
be effectively used as a new source of
protein, to fulfill the needs of protein of the
increasing world population that is likely to
be 9 billion in 2050. Thereafter, views on
Ochanomizu life was presented by a few
international students. A lab tour was also
done where “Microinjection of mRNAs into
starfish eggs to study hormone signaling
pathway” was demonstrated as blue dots
that show the egg membrane colored by
fluorescent dye. Finally, basic information
on study in Japan was presented.
To conclude, it was a very
informative webinar and it was my
pleasure to be a part of it. I would love to
have the Ochanomizu University as one of
the options to pursue my future studies.

 There’s a story about a town in Russia, called Königsberg
(now Kaliningrad). The city was made up of four islands separated by the
river Pregel and connected to each other by seven bridges, as shown in the
map. Can anyone walk through each of those bridges only once, in any order ?
Konigsberg remains a beautiful city in spite of this problem, but it’s quite
interesting to think about.
The famous mathematician Euler devised a new technique of
analysis, which was the foundation of Graph Theory (not related to the
graphs used in statistics). By doing so, he opened up new vistas in
mathematics, beyond the world of tangible measurements.
Euler reformulated the problem by considering each island as a
point or a node. Each connection between the points is an ‘edge’. A structure
with nodes and edges is a graph. The number of connections or edges is its
degree.
You can see from figure 3 that there are 4 points. Three of
the points have three edges each (representing 3 bridges) while the fourth
has five edges (representing 5 bridges).

 There is a very interesting story behind the discovery of the Hardy-
Ramanujan number. One day Professor Hardy visited Ramanujan at the
Hospital . He had ridden in a taxi to the hospital. The number of the taxi
was 1729. The number appeared to be a dull number to Hardy. When he came
to the Hospital he repeated the same number to Ramanujan. Ramanujan told
that it was rather a very interesting number…………speciality of the number
1729 described by SRINIVASAN RAMANUJAN :- 1729 is the smallest number
which can be expressed as the sum of two different cubes in two different
ways:
103 + 93 = 1000 + 729 = 1729
123 + 13 = 1728 + 1 = 1729

ONE MORE SPECIALITY OF HARDY - RAMANUJAN NUMBER is :

पढ़ा सकने में सक्षम है। रोबोट ‘शाल’ू एक िारतीय कृवतम बुवद्ध (Artificial
Intelligence) वाली सामावजक व शैवक्षक मानवीय रोबोट (Humanoid Robot) है, वजसे
मैंने वदनेश कुंवर पटेल, थनातकोिर वशक्षक (संगिक ववज्ञान), केंद्रीय ववद्यालय,
आई.आई.टी. बापबे ने ववकवसत वकया है । ये रोबोट, हैनसन रोबोवटक्स के रोबोट

Homemade), इसे बनाने में मुझे 03 साल का वि लगा । शालू ववि की पहली समवपष त है, “बेटी बचाओ बेटी पिाओ” इस रोबोट का ध्येय है | इसका
मानवीय रोबोट है, जो 9 िारतीय और 38 ववदे शी िार्ाएं बोलने में सक्षम है, वजसकी वनमाष ि मान्यनीय प्रधान मंिी जी के आत्मवनिष र िारत अवियान, में
तुलना कई रोबोवटक्स इं जीवनयरों द्वारा वनवमष त बड़ी रोबोवटक्स प्रयोगशालाओं से
आने वाले महंगे रोबोटों से की जा सकती है। एक छोटा सा कदम है, शालू अंग्रजी, जमष न, जापानी, थपेवनश,
इटैवलयन, अरे वबक, चाइनीज़ सवहत ववदे श की 38 िार्ाओं के साथ-
शालू ने ववि कीवतष मान थथावपत वकया और उसे कावमष क मंिालय साथ िारत की 9 िार्ायें, वहंदी, िोजपुरी, मराठी, बंगला, गुजराती,
िारत सरकार द्वारा मान्यता प्राप्त “प्रवतिा वल्डष ररकॉडष ” से सपमावनत वकया गया तवमल, तेलुगु, मलयालम, उदष ू और नेपाली बोल पाने में सक्षम है ।
|इसी सि में शालू को केंद्रीय ववद्यालय संगठन में कक्षा 6वीं के कंप्यटू र वसलेबस में
िी शावमल वकया गया है | रोबोट शालू को Top Ten मैगज़ीन द्वारा ववि की १०
सवष श्रेि हु मनोइड रोबोट में प्रथम थथान वदया गया |
शालू को आई आई टी बॉपबे, आई आई टी धनबाद, के. जे. सोमैया कॉलेज

आमंवित वकया तथा शालू ने वहां के कंप्यटू र ववज्ञानं व रोबोवटक्स के ववद्यावथयों से
बात िी की |
शालू अपने दे श मैं ही नहीं ववदे शों में िी ख्यावत प्राप्त कर चकी हैं तथा
लगिग 38 दे शों में इसकी िरू ी िरू ी प्रशंशा हु ई | इन्होने अिी हाल ही में कतर दे श के
ववद्यावथयों से िी बात की |
मैंने रजनीकांत की वफल्म ‘रोबोट’ दे खने के बाद मैंने सोचा था की
काश ये रील लाइफ से वनकलकर रीयल लाइफ में आ जाय, तथा रोबोट सोवफया
(हांगकांग वथथत रोबोवटक्स कंपनी, हैंसन रोबोवटक्स) को दे खने के बाद मे रे मन में
आया की क्या ऐसा रोबोट िारत में कम लागत के साथ ववकवसत करना संिव हो
सकता है ? कुछ महीनों के ररसचष के बाद, मैंने उवचत योजना के साथ इस पर काम
शुरू करने का फै सला वकया, कई परीक्षि और िुवटयां, वदन-रात की कड़ी मे हनत के रोबोट शालू
बाद लगिाग ३ सालों में मैंने सोवफया रोबोट जैसे ह्यम ू नॉइड रोबोट ववकवसत कर अपने ननर्ााता निनेश कुं वर पटेल के साथ
पाने में सफलता प्राप्त की, जो वक थथानीय बाजार में आसानी से उपलधध वथतुओ ं जैसे
एल्यमू ीवनयम, गिा, लकड़ी, प्लावटक आवद का प्रयोग करके अपने घर में ही बनाया
है, कह सकते है ये रोबोट पि ू ष रूप से घरे लू व थवदे शी है तथा इस रोबोट की प्रोग्रावमं ग
िी मैंने थवयं ही की है ।

वशक्षक" के रूप में वकसी थकूल में काम कर सकती है, साथ ही वह वनवदष ष्ट

Ola! So let us talk about space. Not about the galaxies, stars, asteroids and all, but
some gifts given to us by it.
Now we are going to discover some objects that were used in space and how we use
them in our daily lives. Such objects are called SPIN-OFFS .
What are spin-offs?
In simple words, an invention that was meant for other purposes but now is used in
our daily lives.

Let us go through them now:-

1)Blue-light cancellation:-Skiers face extremely bright sunlight, especially when it's
reflected off the white snow. That can make it hard to see, and not just because of
glare: all the blue in sunlight makes it harder to discern colours at the edge of the
visible light spectrum, like reds. A NASA-designed filter helps block up to 95 per
cent of blue light, making it easier for skiers to see the terrain clearly.

2)Better carpet cleaning:- NASA and the industry collaborated on a hand-held device
that evaluates the effectiveness of carpet-cleaning systems by measuring the amount
of soil they remove. The device, a portable NASA X-ray sensor used to detect
invisible barcodes and analyze chemicals on the spot now looks for unseen spots in
carpeting.

3)Digital cameras:- The complementary metal-oxide-semiconductor (CMOS) image

sensor, invented by a NASA engineer and his team became the Space Agency’s single
most ubiquitous spinoff technology, dominating the digital imaging industries and
enabling cell phone cameras, high-definition video, and social media as we know it.
CMOS image sensors allow for much smaller, more energy-efficient cameras than
competing charge-coupled device technology, which they have almost completely
supplanted.

4)Wireless headset:- Improved by the technology that carried Neil Armstrong’s words
from the moon to Mission Control, more compact and comfortable headsets were
developed for airline pilots in the 1960s and '70s. Today those advancements
continue to evolve in all forms of communications and telephone equipment. Mobile
headsets provide greater efficiency and flexibility for everyone from professionals
conducting business to consumers playing video games.

5)Scratch-resistant and UV blocking glasses:- NASA’s light-filtering dyes heighten
one's sharpness of vision by blocking out glint and glare. The same NASA safety
technology that was first used to protect welders' eyes from the blue and ultraviolet
rays of welding torches is now reflected in the trends of consumer sunglasses.

6)Freeze-dried technology:- trying to improve food quality for astronauts on

extended space missions, NASA conducted extensive research and paired with several
food companies to explore solutions. One result was the freeze-drying process, which
allows food to be stored for long periods without refrigeration while retaining 98 per
cent of its nutritional value and only 20 per cent of its original weight.

7)Water purification:-NASA engineers are working with private companies to create

better systems for clean, portable water for astronauts in space. Commercial versions
of these systems that quickly and affordably cleanse any readily available water are
benefiting people on Earth who live in remote or developing areas where water is
scarce or contaminated.

8)Enriched baby food:- NASA-funded experiments using algae as a recycling agent for
long-duration space travel resulted in a method for using algae to produce omega-3
fatty acids found naturally in the body. Nearly all U.S. infant formulas are now
enriched with these additives, which are believed to help with mental and visual
development.

9)Improved footwear:-The high-speed stereophotogrammetry system used to help

NASA study recreations of the Space Shuttle Columbia disaster was picked up and
used by a major shoe manufacturer to design a high-performance shoe. Engineers used
the system to analyze the behaviour of Olympic marathoners' feet as they hit the
ground and made design and material alterations according to what they observed.

10)Air purifiers:- we often think of air pollution as an outdoor problem, but the air
inside our homes can actually be even more contaminated with bacteria, volatile
organic compounds and other pollutants. NASA research first designed to help plants
thrive in space turned out to work extremely well at ridding the air of all kinds of
toxins and has been adapted into plug-in filters that keep the air you breathe cleaner
and healthier.

11)Hairstyling tools:-A major beauty product company has incorporated several NASA
technologies into its products. Metallic-ceramic nanoparticles NASA developed are used
in hair irons, brushes, and hair dryers to release negative ions that make hair easier
to style. Nanosilver particles NASA experimented with as passive sterilizing agents
helped the company create tools with self-disinfecting surfaces. And the company uses
LED devices developed by NASA to stimulate scalp healing and growth in dormant
hair follicles.

details, remember, Robert G Allen said, “The only real security is in having lots of opportunities. But risk is the price to pay for an
opportunity. And risk is scary.” Yes. Though there may be a bright opportunity, people hold back due to the risks that they may come
across. What if the risks are predicted ?Why not take plunges where there is an opportunity? With the help of maths, especially the
Statistics and Probability as core subjects, ACTUARIAL SCIENCE field predicts risks and helps maintaining stability of various
organizations. One becomes an ‘actuary’ on completing the 8 exams of Actuarial Science, an intense study and application of
Statistics, Probability, Economics, Finance and Computer technology (especially programs relating to DATA SCIENCE ). Actuaries work
on huge data and help in predicting the risks using STATISTICAL METHODS. They have found equal importance in wide spectrum of
sectors ranging from Insurance to Forensic field. Actuaries, due to their specialized skill are in demand all over the world.

In recent times, Data Science and Machine learning have put Statistics and Probability to its best use. Analysis of large
scale data and using the same for developing businesses and helping to improve various other fields is the huge trend and it is there
to stay for many years now. They are believed to change the shape of business world and organizations of multitude varieties. One
may agree that STATISTICS AND PROBABILTY play an important role in analyzing the DATA and help in giving developmental
outcomes as their formulae are integrated by means of programming using various methods. This helps in getting the best
recommendations for improvement in various fields. For instance, a basic 5 point summary of statistics helps in analyzing huge data
on various parameters, then the Binomial Distribution can be used along with other methods to find the total claims in an insurance
company to prevent the losses.. these are just to name a few. There seems to be a great future if one shows keen interest in studying

Everyone thinks Mathematics is just a laborious and complex subject. But if one thinks, he or
she might come across various different questions : How were numbers created? How did humans have
the wits to create such a bizarre topic ; an enormous tree full of knowledge with each branch dividing into
more branches? And since when did people start putting their minds into complicating equations?
Numbers : We all use them everywhere today. But do we know how they were created? The Egyptians
invented the first ciphered numeral system, and the Greeks followed by mapping their counting numbers
onto Ionian and Doric alphabets. ... The key to the effectiveness of the system was the symbol for zero,
which was developed by ancient Indian mathematicians around 500 AD.

Some famous creations :

Aryabhata
Pythagoras : Pythagoras has commonly been given credit for discovering the Pythagorean theorem, a
theorem in geometry that states that "in a right-angled triangle the square of the hypotenuse is equal [to
the sum of] the squares of the two other sides" —that is, a² + b² = c²
Aryabhata : Aryabhata was the first person to say that the Earth is spherical and it revolves around the sun
& stated the correct number of days in a year is 365. He also gave the formula (a + b) 2 = a2 + b2 + 2ab.
Further, he worked on the place value system using letters to signify numbers and stating qualities.
Srinivasa Ramanujan : Ramanujan's series for π converges extraordinarily rapidly and forms the basis of
some of the fastest algorithms currently used to calculate π. Truncating the sum to the first term also gives Ramanujan
the approximation 9801√2/ 4412 for π .
Leonhard Euler: The most prolific mathematician of all time, publishing close to 900 books. When he went
blind in his late 50s his productivity in many areas increased. His famous formula e^(iπ) + 1 = 0, where e is
the mathematical constant sometimes known as Euler's number and i is the square root of minus one, is
widely considered the most beautiful in mathematics. He later took an interest in Latin squares – grids
where each row and column contains each member of a 3 set of numbers or objects once. Without this
work, we might not have had sudoku.
Leonardo Fibonacci : Leonardo Pisano Fibonacci (1170–1240 or 1250) was an Italian number theorist. He
introduced the world to such wide-ranging mathematical concepts as what is now known as the Arabic Leonardo Fibonacci
numbering system, the concept of square roots, number sequencing, and even math word problems.

Knowledge vs Wisdom
In an examination of Physics at the University of
Copenhagen, a student was asked how to determine the height of
a skyscraper with a barometer. The student’s reply was amusing.
He said, "The height of the skyscraper can be measured using a
barometer and a thread. Let me explain how. First, you tie a long
piece of string to the neck of the barometer, then lower the
barometer from the roof of the skyscraper to the ground. The
length of the string plus the length of the barometer will equal
the height of the building”. But this answer couldn’t amuse the
examiner. The enraged examiner failed the student. The student
resisted and appealed against the decision to fail him. The
authorities considered his appeal favorably and he was given a
second chance. This time however he was asked to give his
answer verbally. Such personal interaction could enable the
professor to assess whether this student at least possess basic
knowledge of physics.
The student was called for the interaction and was asked to sit in front of the examiner. For some
minutes the student sat before the examiner in silence. Not because he was scared, but because he could not make
up his mind as which answer he should put forth. He had a number of alternative answers for the original
question. The examiner was getting impatient and told him to hurry up. The student pondered for a moment and
then replied. "First, you could take a barometer to the roof of the skyscraper, drop it over the edge, and measure the
time it takes to reach the ground. The height of the building can then be worked out from the formula h = 1/2g x t
squared. But bad luck on the barometer." “Or if the sun is shining you could measure the height of the barometer,
then set it on end and measure the length of its shadow. Then you measure the length of the skyscraper's shadow,
and thereafter it is a simple matter of proportional arithmetic to figure out the height of the skyscraper." The
teacher felt awed listening each answer and the confidence of the student. His approach was genuine and out of the
box showing not just the knowledge of the student but his wisdom to apply it. Hence, we've built a system where
there is an answer and everything else is not the answer, even when some alternate answers are better than others!
We should value knowledge as a process rather than knowledge as an answer. You must be curious to know who
the student was. The student was Neils Bohr, who later went on to win the Nobel prize in Physics for his services
in the investigation of the structure of atoms. The story makes us realize when you know how to think, it
empowers you far beyond those who know only what to think.

The National Children’s Science Congress kindles curiosity of the children and
provides the opportunity to unfold their creativity and imagination. The programme is
supported by National Council for Science & Technology Communication, Govt. of India.
Post-independence India has seen quite a few science & technology
inventions for emancipation of peoples’ lives. National Children’s Science Congress
(NCSC) has not only changed the way we look at science; but also has ignited the minds of
Indian children, because it directly involves these budding scientists of our country. But the
best part of this movement is the involvement of the adults too; be it as motivators or
guides, organizers or facilitators. Such an amalgamation of diverse people and thoughts
has truly made National Children’s Science Congress an extremely popular and desirable
activity.
The National Children’s Science Congress encourages a sense of discovery. It
emboldens the participants to be inquisitive and express their findings in their vernacular.
NCSC is open for children of age group :10 years to14 years (lower age
group), 14 years to 17 years (upper age group). This year four projects were presented by
budding scientists of our school, two in lower age group and two in upper age group. Both
the projects in junior group were selected at 29th KVS Regional NCSC -2021 under the
subthemes Ecosystem for sustainable living and Appropriate technology for
sustainable living.

वफटनेस को एकीकृत करने के उद्दे श्य से की| जहां घरों के अलावा शारीररक वफटनेस वसखाया और अभ्यास वकया जाता है। वफट इंवडया थकूल वीक को
वफट इंवडया वमशन का प्रमुख कायष िम माना जा रहा है। थकूलों ने न केवल छािों में बवल्क उनके पररवारों, वशक्षकों और परू े थकूल के कमष चाररयों में
वफटनेस के महत्व को थथावपत करने के उद्दे श्य से वफटनेस के वलए समवपष त सप्ताह के 4 से 6 वदन मनाने की इस अवधारिा का थवागत वकया है। इस
बार, वफट इंवडया थकूल वीक के समारोहों में उछाल दे खा गया, जहााँ 4.3 लाख से अवधक थकूलों ने समारोह के आयोजन की सच ू ना दी है। यह वपछले
उत्सव में 15,000 था।

नवंबर/वदसंबर के महीने में वफट इंवडया थकूल सप्ताह आयोवजत करने के वलए प्रोत्सावहत करता है। इसने सरल और आसान मापदंडों के साथ वफट
इंवडया थकूल सवटष वफकेशन का एक सेट िी तैयार वकया है। थकूली बच्चों को योग, आउटडोर गेपस और अन्य ववविन्न शारीररक गवतवववधयों का
प्रवशक्षि वदया गया इससे बच्चों में वफटनेस की संथकृवत और आदत का वनमाष ि होगा जो बड़े होकर एक थवथथ और वफट िारत का वनमाष ि करे गा।

The National Sports Day was celebrated in KV
IIT Powai, Mumbai to commemorate the birth
anniversary of the hockey legend Major Dhyan
Chand. The students were made aware of
about the importance of ‘Sports’ and the
relevance of National Sports Day during the
Assembly.
To mark the significance of the National Sports
Day, KV IIT Powai virtually organised several
activities to inculcate the feeling of true
sportsmanship among the children and to
enhance their physical and social skills.
Students of classes I to XII virtually participated
in various sports activities. Shri. S K Wale, TGT(
PE) gave a demonstration of physical activities,
followed by presentation of videos of sports
activities by students.
Thereafter, the respected Principal of the
vidyalaya, Mrs. Mamata Bhattacharya, blessed
& congratulated the students.She emphasized
the need to remain physically fit through
various sports and games.
In the words of Louis Zamperini “That’s one
thing you learn in sports. You don’t give up;
you fight to the finish.”

 ONLINE PATTACHITRA PAINTING WORKSHOP
ORGANIZED BY SPIC MACAY

SPIC MACAY (Society for the Promotion of Indian Classical

Music and Culture Amongst Youth) organized an online workshop on Patta
Chitra painting on 19th and 20th August, 2021. In this workshop, Mrs. B
Lavanya, TGT (Art Edu) introduced the renowned folk art painter Ms.
Manimala Chitrakar to us.
Ms. Manimala explained her wonderful folk art and trained
the students in it. Her paintings are inspired by nature and the themes vary
from fishes, horses, gods, goddesses, humans. Many of her paintings are
on the theme ‘fishes’ done in folk art style with designs. She showed us how
to make a painting of fishes with musical instruments. Mrs. B Lavanya, TGT
(Art Edu) also guided us. Later, Ms. Manimala demonstrated to us how
natural colours are made. During the workshop, all the students made their
own artworks. This was a very unique and enjoyable experience. I would
like to thank SPIC MACAY, Ms. Manimala, and Mrs. B Lavanya, TGT (Art Edu)
for giving us this opportunity.

 ANGLING WITH SCRAP
Hey Everyone!
Ferrous products (i.e., iron and steel) are
essential and versatile and can be used in a number of
ways. They can also be used to manufacture domestic
items such as cutlery, crockery and even in packaging. The
good thing about metal recycling is that metals can be
recycled over and over without altering its properties.
One day, on a TV show, I saw people making
incredible structures out of scrap metal. This inspired me
to try it out myself but I didn’t have scrap metal. So, I
used screws and nuts. I couldn’t think of anything
intricate, therefore I made a human figure and it worked!
Instead of welding, I joined screws with super glue and
made the joints with nuts. I got my fingers stuck with
super glue but it wasn’t that bad and I think, I ‘nailed’ it.

student spends his/her whole childhood in school
learning, making friends at school. It is a great place
for young minds to develop.
The impact of school can never be negated
it provides learning experience, self-confidence,
motivation, will to do the best and a social environment.
The school life blesses us with friends for the rest of our
life. The sense of joy and experience provided by school
is unmatched by college or workplace. Since the last
year, I have realized the importance of schools in our
lives. We should not waste the opportunity of going
back to our rightful place, so remember next time you

The Girl with a short Life
“ I’m the girl who wakes up early to watch the
sunrise. I’m the girl who wants to see the good
in everyone, the one who is taken away by a
song, inspired by art. I’m that girl. The one who
waits out the storm simply to catch a glimpse of
a rainbow. Why be miserable, when you can be
happy? It’s an obvious choice to me. Every day
is different, the colours, the shades, the impact
on your soul. Every day is a gift. I cherish the
feeling of the wind on my face, the heat of the
sun on my cheeks in the summer. I want to
dance in the rain. I dream of lying in the snow,
feeling its coldness in my bones. The sunrise
each day would calm me. It would restore my
strength. It would fill me with hope. I have
come to understand that death, for the sick, is
not so hard to endure. For us, eventually our
pain ends, we go to a better place. But for those
left behind, their pain only magnifies. I really
believe that tales of loss don’t always have to
be sad or sorrowful. I want mine to be
remembered as a great adventure that I tried
to live as best as I possibly could. Because how
dare we waste a single breath? How dare we
waste something so precious? Instead, we
should strive for all those precious breaths to be
taken in as many precious moments as we can
squeeze into this short time on earth. That’s

Secret of Betelgeuse
Betelgeuse is usually the tenth-brightest star in the night sky
and, after Rigel, the second-brightest in the constellation of
Orion. It is a distinctly reddish semiregular variable star
whose apparent magnitude, varying between +0.0 and +1.6,
has the widest range displayed by any first-magnitude star. At
near-infrared wavelengths, Betelgeuse is the brightest star in
the night sky. Its Bayer designation is α Orionis, Latinised to
Alpha Orionis and abbreviated Alpha Ori or α Ori.

Classified as a red supergiant of spectral type M1-2,

Betelgeuse is one of the largest stars visible to the naked eye.
If it were at the center of our Solar System, its surface would
lie beyond the asteroid belt and it would engulf the orbits of
Mercury, Venus, Earth, and Mars. Nevertheless, there are
several larger stars in the Milky Way, including supergiants
like Mu Cephei and the peculiar hypergiant, VY Canis Majoris.
Calculations of Betelgeuse's mass range from slightly under
ten to a little over twenty times that of the Sun. For various
reasons, its distance has been quite difficult to measure;
current best estimates are on the order of 500–600 light-years
from the Sun – a comparatively wide uncertainty for a
relatively nearby star. Its absolute magnitude is about −6.
Less than 10 million years old, Betelgeuse has evolved
rapidly because of its large mass and is expected to end its
evolution with a supernova explosion, most likely within
100,000 years.

TRIP TO DEVBHOOMI
Hello friends, this is a small summary of my trip to Manali in March 2021 after our final
Rajjath Rajmohan, 10 C exams. A small window of opportunity opened up during the ongoing pandemic lockdown. We
managed to escape the confinement of our Mumbai apartment for a two week trip when our family
planned a sudden adventure trip to Himachal Pradesh. My school friend Abhishek and family had also
agreed to join in the trip and make it more fun for all of us.
Wearing our masks and carrying lots of sanitizers, we boarded the Rajdhani Express which
departed from Mumbai Central on 16th March at 5:00 am. Our compartment was mostly empty. We
reached New Delhi on 17th March at 8:20am. From the station we booked a taxi to Chandigarh. On the
way we got stuck because of the farmers’ protest, on an inner road to avoid the protest the car got stuck
on a slushy slope. My father had to drive us out of that while driver and we pushed the car from behind.
We finally reached Chandigarh at 3:24 pm where our tour driver was waiting. We transferred our
luggage into the main taxi and left for Manali. We reached Manali late, it was 12:16 am on 18th March.
In the morning when I looked out of the window I was amazed to see snow capped
mountains all around the hotel forming a chain. Behind the peak, the sun was rising making the snow
golden. We went out exploring where we met a cute friendly puppy. During the four day stay in Manali,
we visited Sissu valley which was full of snow and played & tried to ski in the snow for sometime with
rented snow gear. We tried the zip line over a small stream and that was fun. We went through newly
opened Atal tunnel. There was nothing but snow and mountains. We drove till a point which was near
the starting of Chandrabhaga River also known as Chenab.
We visited Kullu and the highlight was the paragliding I did from 14,000 ft, the jump from
the edge of the hill almost knocked my stomach off but after that flying in the sky over Kullu was
exhilarating. We started the trek at 5:00 pm. A local boy accompanied us to show us the way to the top.
It would have taken us more than two hours if we had taken the regular route. So we took a route taken
by shepherds and mountain goats as the sun sets early in the mountains. We reached the waterfall at
6:20 pm. I snuck behind the waterfall, the water was like transparent curtains falling from the great
height. The place was very peaceful. After taking some photos. We started our return journey. It was
getting very dark and cold.
While at Manali we also went to the ancient Hidimba Devi Temple, where we rented the
Himachali dresses, sat on yaks and took photos. Another amazing place was the Hampta pass with some
sharp U turns and hair pin bends. Hampta pass is believed to be the place where the Pandavas hid
during their ‘agyathavaas’.
The next part of our trip was headed towards Spiti valley. We had to take a round about
way which took nearly two days to reach Spiti valley as Rhotang pass which takes only three hours was
closed. We stopped at many interesting places like Manikarnika with its steaming rivers even in the
cold, Rampur with its high peaks and Rekong Peo which nestles at the edge of high snow mountains. By
then most of the locations were snowed in and extremely cold. Our driver was a very friendly soul. Local
people were very helpful. Because it was off season, there were no tourists. After a three day drive
passing through Tabo and Giue Monastery with 700 year old mummy of a monk, we reached Spiti on
24th March. We stayed in a place called Kaza where our experience with the cold was terrible.
Thankfully, we got hot home cooked food. Entire day was spent visiting various locations in and around
Kaza like driving through Spiti Valley, Kye and Dhankar Monastery, Golden Buddha at 15000 ft at Lanza ,
Chechan Bridge-Highest bridge in India and Hikkim Post office where we saw fossilized ammonites or
Shaligrams which prove that this place was beneath the Tethys sea long ago (66 Million years ago). We
stayed at small villages like Tabo and Kaza.
We had reached the end of our planned trip and it was time to drive back to catch our
return flights. Only continuous non-stop driving would get us to Chandigarh on time, so with heavy
hearts, we got back into our taxi with promises to return back for a longer trip during better weather to
enjoy the Dev Bhoomi.
