INTRODUCTION

INTRODUCTION
I
t can be very tempting to look to overseas designers
for the latest trends and innovations, but we have
an abundance of local design talent — skilled
practitioners who design high-calibre landscapes and
swimming pools that meet the most exacting standards.
In Australia's Best Landscape & Pool Design we
look at the work of some of this country’s most highly
respected landscape and pool designers and builders
to demonstrate what can be achieved when you engage
the services of a professional. A new pool or landscape
is a significant investment. Get it right and it will enhance
your lifestyle, now and well into the future, and it will
boost the re-sale value of your property should you
choose to move on at some future stage.
There are many advantages to working with an
experienced, accomplished designer. They can show
you ways to maximise your outdoor space, which is
especially important for those with small, tricky or
awkwardly shaped blocks of land. A designer will know
about the best materials and finishes, what your lighting
and heating options are, where to place focal points and
water features, what work will need council approval, and
a great deal more.
Armed with the right design, the next step is to work
with a skilled pool builder or landscape contractor.
In many cases, companies will offer both design and
construction expertise; in others, the company may offer
pool and landscaping services. The important thing is to
choose a company with experience and a strong track
record to give form to your new design.
The projects featured in Australia's Best Landscape
& Pool Design represent a wide range of locations and
styles. As you browse through the following pages you
will find holiday-style harbourside havens, bushland-
inspired landscapes, character-filled urban gardens
incorporating recycled materials, family-friendly pools
with a tropical twist, formal pools of grand design,
and contemporary projects in which the pool and
landscaping have equal billing.
While the designs are diverse, each project amply
shows the results you can expect when you work with
an experienced practitioner: a pool and/or landscape
created to suit the specifics of your site and meet your
family’s highly individual lifestyle needs.

Faced with the prospect of creating front and rear gardens from scratch,

life and the generous use of advanced trees.”
More than 100 plant species were used in this landscape, ranging from
cycads, agaves, china dolls, bromeliads and various succulents to buxus and lilly
pillies, which were used for low hedging. To reinforce the desired tropical look
and add to the layering effect, there is a mix of striking palms, including Canary
Island palms, Kentia palms and miniature date palms.
“We had to crane a lot of the trees into position as they were too heavy to
move by hand,” says David. “Just manoeuvring the large trees around took
a long time but the effort was worth it. By using these advanced trees and
supporting this by the intense layering of the plants, we have given the garden
a look of maturity and abundance.” While David is pleased with the planting »

A Sydney’s Rose Bay were after. Their preference was for a clean-
lined layout bordering on the formal, which they felt would best
suit the architecture of the house and the shape of the existing
swimming pool. The sound of water was important to them, as was
implementing a soothing colour scheme of deep greens and whites.
“I feel we really captured and presented a garden that is completely
in line with the owners’ brief,” says designer Matthew Leacy of Landart
Landscapes. “It has symmetry, a connection to the house and a formal
structure and layout that makes it functional and inviting. For me, the
central water feature, which has a visual link to the water feature that leads
down the side of the house, is the most exciting element of this design,”
he continues. “This draws you to venture down the side and maximises a
chunk of land that went completely unused before the renovation.” »

place to entertain friends in outdoor comfort and a swimming pool

A for the family — this is the Australian dream. However, if you don’t
have a massive rear garden, achieving this can seem like a challenge.
“The homeowners wanted a swimming pool but had no idea
how — or if — it could be done. In particular, they had major concerns about
whether there was enough room for a pool, an entertaining area and a parking
space,” says Shawn Townsend of Ashtown Landscapes.
Reflecting the traditional architectural features of the Victorian-style
house, a formal design for the pool and landscape was chosen by Shawn. The
pool, which is bordered by a low-growing evergreen hedge in keeping with the
formal style, incorporates a water feature. Three classical-style brass water
spouts send water streaming into the pool to create a subtle focal point.
Above the trio of water spouts sits a feature wall into which Ashtown

show garden gives the designer an opportunity to be the client
and give full reign to his or her creativity. In this instance, designer
Dean Herald of Rolling Stone Landscapes used the Melbourne
International Flower & Garden Show as an opportunity to create his
interpretation of the ideal resort-style landscape.
The centrepiece of Dean’s lavish layered design was a fully tiled 10m-long
wet-edge lap pool with stainless-steel underwater bar stools. The stools sidle
up to a pavilion which houses a swim-up bar with glass-door fridges, storage
space and a sink. A custom-made stainless-steel trough was installed in the
bench close to the edge of the pool forming a self-serve bar.
A larger pavilion was erected on the other side of the pool. The centrepiece
of this pavilion was a handcrafted “floating” 5m-long Corian countertop
suspended from the ceiling by two steel rods. At one end the bench could be
used as a dining table, at the other there was a cooking station.
Just a few steps down from the pavilion there was a sunken hardwood deck
positioned to take in a restful view of the pool and the massed plantings. »

with a classic contemporary feel. And it’s a garden that makes a strong visual
statement when viewed from the upstairs living areas.
To bring the pool into the 21st century, the swim-outs were filled in to
give a strong rectangular outline, an underwater bench and new steps were
constructed, and the interior surface was clad in 45mm x 45mm ceramic tiles.
The screen of ship-lapped timber stretching along one side of the garden
provides the pool and entertaining areas with some degree of protection
from prying eyes and a certain sense of intimacy. As the neighbour’s pool
area sits right on the boundary line on this side of the property, privacy was
understandably a key concern.
The windows set into the screen connect it with views of the nearby public
park and give the structure a distinctive look that enhances the appeal of
the space. To complement the timber screen, spotted gum was used for the
decking and benches, all of which is in complete harmony with the new paved
surrounds of the pool and the modern outdoor furniture.
In the part of the garden that hugs the cliff, the planting has a rainforest feel.
This is complemented by dense plantings along the boundary with a smattering
of accent plants for an extra splash of colour or a flourish of interesting foliage.
An extensive outdoor lighting design provided the finishing touch. This
turns the external areas into welcoming spaces for night-time entertaining and
ensures safe passage to and from the boat house.

here is nothing quite like a water feature to stimulate the senses, and
the custom-designed one that graces the entry garden of this newly
renovated home is no exception. The water feature sits in front of
the home's interior living area and boasts a stone feature wall and
plant-filled split-level ponds.
The water feature was just one part of the brief given to Peter Neagoe of
Select Outdoor Solutions, who was commissioned to renovate both the
landscape and the home. He was charged with creating a landscape that
would complement the new look of the home and its bushland surrounds —
something that emphasised natural materials and an abundance of plants.
This acreage property gave Peter plenty of scope, starting with the driveway
which was edged with rustic bluestone pitchers. His team also installed new
double gates, which were set between entrance piers clad in stacked stone and
capped with bluestone.
Merbau timber was used to build the steps and boardwalk-style path that
leads to the front of the home, as well as the decking in other parts of the
garden. Merbau was chosen as the home is located in a bushfire-prone area
with a Bushfire Attack Level (BAL) rating of 29. This requires the use of timber
that is inherently bushfire-resistant, which merbau is.
In the front garden, sandstone pavers, interspersed with rosemary, were
placed in a grid pattern in front of the water feature while all retaining walls
were built using core-filled concrete blocks, which were then either rendered
or clad in stacked stone to reference the external stone cladding on the house.
The owners asked Peter to include lots of plants, especially flowering

his large estate on Sydney’s lower North Shore was in desperate
need of a major redesign. The owners wanted a new swimming pool,
poolside cabana, tennis court and courtyards, all set within traditional
lawns and gardens — a task they entrusted to A Total Concept.
“The owners undertook extensive home renovations and in conjunction with
the building works, we were asked to design all the external areas to provide a
series of stunning outdoor spaces to complement the stately home,” explains
John Storch, landscape architect and founder of A Total Concept.
“The external areas were very dilapidated, which allowed us to start from
scratch. We were able to design and integrate the spaces and assimilate the pool,
court, cabana, formal lawn, maze garden, water court, covered entertaining
decks, entry paths and driveway with the architect-designed residence.”
As the entire rear of the property fell away from the residence and
was unusable, John proposed to level this area and place the three main
components of the new design within it. Although this was a controversial
proposal (which included elevating the levels approximately three metres
onto neighbouring property boundaries), A Total Concept was able to
secure local council approval, saving the owners the hassle of dealing with

hether you’re gazing out from the windows of the lounge room or

Construction, is unmistakable: a 25-year-old weeping cherry tree.
Rescued from another site, where it was destined for destruction, the cherry tree
was carefully dug out, transported to the garden by truck and temporarily planted
on-site until it was ready to be lifted into its final position. Once placed in its centrally-
located circular garden bed, it was under-planted with trailing lasiandra.
The serpentine garden beds, which border the wall of the house and the front
fence, boast mixed plantings of Phormium ‘Black Magic’, Liriope ‘Joy Mist’ and Abelia
grandiflora ‘Nana’. In the bed in front of the house, the feature planting consists of two
weeping Acacia cognata ‘Mini Cog’ and three Lophomyrtus ‘Black Stallion’. In the bed
along the fence, a trio of feature Ficus microcarpa hillii ‘Flash’ trees, under-planted
with Escallonia ‘Pink Pixie’, draw focus.
Another focal point of the garden is a built-in bench seat set against the side fence.

A
well-designed front garden is about much more than just making a good
first impression. It’s about showcasing your home, creating a sense of
place and giving you a good feeling each and every time you pull into
your driveway. And while the design needs to harmonise with the overall
streetscape, it is also a great opportunity to express your personality.
This distinctive front garden, located in a Brisbane suburb, ticks all the right boxes.
Designed and built by Denis Fitzpatrick and the Green Survival team, it is very different
from anything else on the street yet sits in complete harmony with the house and the
overall environment. Not only does it make an arresting first impression, it is incredibly
easy to maintain and it successfully resolves the level changes presented by the
sloping block.
Easy-care plants, most of them Australian natives, have been used along with
natural materials to create a bushland-inspired design that has just a hint of formality
in its well-structured layout. Grass trees were used as accent plantings and a Tabebuia
rosea (better known to many as the pink trumpet tree) was planted in the front right
corner to act as a feature and, in time, provide afternoon shade.
Sandstone blocks are a key feature of the design. Getting them into place was no
small achievement and required the use of a crane. The blocks are complemented by
the use of sandstone paving, a sandstone pillar letterbox and the use of decorative
pebbles as mulch and infill between steppers.
To deal with the level changes and make the garden easy to navigate from street to
front door, the Green Survival team introduced flat-paved platforms and sandstone
boulders which double as seating. Now the owners have an entry garden that is as
functional as it is distinctive.
The garden has been a neighbourhood talking point for some time now. Envious
passers-by are impressed by its unique design and ingenious interplay of colours and
natural textures, while the owners are thrilled with the inspired water-conserving
planting scheme which ensures the garden continues to thrive during dry spells.

T
he beautifully designed spaces that ebb and flow around this
Melbourne home have a natural look that is timeless. This is due to a
design that makes the garden look as if it naturally occurred on site,
which is always the best way to create a look that never dates.
While the owners had a small list of vital requirements (a vegie garden, a
functional driveway, and improved access to the front door), they were happy
to leave the rest to designer Doug Lord from Yellowstone Landscaping.
Doug’s design has an open, back-to-nature feel that fully complements
the architectural style of the house and uses the site’s natural contours and
considerable slope to best effect. To tame this slope, several retaining walls
were needed in both entry and rear gardens. The majority were constructed of
Coldstream rock, sourced locally. The rich colour of the rock blends well with the
house and planting scheme, and adds to the natural charm of the garden.
The plants were all selected for their appearance and ability to thrive in
the various microclimates around the property. The homeowners had a few
favourite plants they wanted to include, and to this list Doug added a variety of
Australian natives plus exotics such as birches, cycads and gardenias.

The vegie patch the owners requested has been cleverly integrated into the
design of the rear garden and is frequently used to supply cooking ingredients.
In the back garden you will also find an expanse of child-friendly lawn. Kikuyu
was used for this as it is self repairing and needs minimal watering.
A set of rock steps provides access from the top of the lawn area to the
bottom of the garden, adding to the natural charm of the landscape. The
steps seem to flow like a natural creek while the stonework references the
boulders and stone used in the front garden. As the rear garden was designed
to be used and enjoyed there’s a swimming pool and a pergola-covered
entertaining area.
This is a garden space that will only improve with age, from the vines that
are beginning to grow along the beams of the pergola to the plants that are
going from strength to strength in the impressive entry area.

dam. This can only be used sparingly during dry summer periods, which was
why only drought-tolerant plants were used. The hardy nature of the plants

The site had substantial cross-falls so the challenge was to introduce
generous level spaces in the form of decks, pavements and lawns for large
family gatherings. Castlemaine slate crazy paving was used on the porch

slate complement the natural hues of the semi-circular timber deck which is
located on the northern side of the home, as well as the elevated deck that
wraps around the house.
Adding to the rural ambience, there is a charming bird bath set amid
hollow log planters, hand-split post and rail perimeter fencing, and casual
paths of earthy-coloured gravel which wend their way through the
landscape. The overall effect is enhanced by ironbark sleeper retainers with
drystone “beaching” retainers built using stone quarried from the nearby
town of Tynong.

KEEPING THE PEACE

here is something inherently peaceful about a Japanese garden.

The same can be said for a native Australian bush garden. Put
them together and you have a space that is visually engaging and
soothing to the senses.
When the owners called on garden designer Dave Limburg of Peaceful
Landscapes, their brief was to create a visually interesting, highly textural
garden space that would inspire children in their play while bringing enjoyment
to the older members of the family.
“The garden is a fusion of Japanese aesthetics and Australian native plants.
It incorporates all the rules of Japanese garden design yet delivers a relaxed,
informally structured garden with a subtle bushland feel,” says Dave. “The
waterfall, creek and bottom pond are the highlights for me. The gentle trickle
of the water and the meandering pebble-filled creek give a lovely sense of
peace to the garden. I also love the variety of different native plants with their
contrasting and complementary foliage, forms and flowers.”
Australian native plants make up the bulk of the planting list, which
includes a gum that produces vibrant red flowers, grass trees, kangaroo paws,
westringias, and a wide selection of native grasses. Peaceful Landscapes also
incorporated a few exotics (such as sweet viburnum and buxus) to introduce
some foliage fullness to flesh out the design.
For added character, several of the key design elements were fashioned
using recycled materials. Reclaimed railway sleepers were used as feature
seating and steppers while reconstituted granite was used as the main
paving material. This creates an informal appearance, softens the look of the
garden, and is permeable so water soaks into the ground rather than washing
away. Dave’s other goal for the garden was to make it child-friendly and

interactive, without looking like a playground. “We overcame this challenge by

incorporating a range of sensory elements and materials into the garden — the
water feature, recycled railway sleepers, river pebbles, reconstituted granite,
sandstone boulders and an extensive array of plants,” he explains.
The final touch was to add landscape lighting to highlight the main features
of the garden after sunset and to paint an alluring nightscape that could be
enjoyed by the owners when they looked out from the house — and by those
passing by on the street.

G
ood design and canny plant selection are two of the four essential
ingredients that go into the pot when making a garden that
looks good, is easy to maintain and lasts the distance. The third is
excellent construction supported by the use of quality materials
and the fourth is sustainability. Constructed by Rowlands Landscapes, the
rear garden of this Sydney property combines a modern outdoor design with
functionality and productivity. In addition to the lifestyle elements that make
this an ideal family entertaining space, this is a bountiful landscape producing
an abundance of herbs, fruit of myriad kinds (lemons, cumquats, passionfruit,
olives) and fresh eggs daily from chickens that are free to roam around the lawn
during the day.
All of this is integrated into a modern design by landscape architecture firm
Terragram in which every element, including the industrial-look metal staircase
leading down from the house and the richly coloured natural stone walling,
has been built with great care and precision by Andrew Rowlands and his
construction team.
The reclaimed sandstone walls are a feature of the landscape and while rather
imposing, they manage to enclose the space without making it feel hemmed in.
Built into the rear wall is low seating which comes in very handy when hosting
large get-togethers. The sandstone references the property’s coastal location
(the house overlooks the ocean) and creates a private outdoor environment
for the whole family to enjoy.
The plants are central to the success of the landscape. In the rear garden,
there is a mix of edible plants, including an espaliered citrus grove, olive trees,

passionfruit, lavender and rosemary, as well as a few ornamental plants such

T
here is an aura of elegance surrounding this sleek new pool and its classic-modern landscaped
surrounds. Designed by Frank Gill and Associates and built by KMD — The Outdoor
Construction Company, the modern streamlined pool is the sparkling jewel in the crown of this
beautifully designed and expertly built outdoor retreat.
Of contemporary design, the lap pool serves a dual purpose. It can be used for exercise or it can assume
the role of an over-sized water feature, the view of which can be savoured from the outdoor dining and
lounge areas, and from inside the home.
The interior of the pool is clad in light-green Bisazza glass tiles, which shimmer during the day and
seem to take on extra lustre at night when the pool lighting is switched on. The design of the pool also
incorporates an underwater bench and steps that lead to a shallow spot where children can wade or
adults can sit and relax.
The soothing green of the pool’s interior complements the large expanse of lawn and the planting,
which has a largely traditional look with just a twist of the tropics.
While the pool is the centrepiece of the design, the stunning stonework and landscaping, all carried
out by KMD, are standout elements. For the retaining walls and pillars, KMD used lightly banded Sydney
sandstone, which adds warmth and natural texture throughout.
The stairs were created from Mintaro slate, the sweeping driveway and wide entrance path from
Mintaro cobblestone, and Verde granite was used in the creation of the tiered water feature. An
abstract metal sculpture sits on its top level. Custom-made metalwork on the wall behind the pool
adds another decorative element and even includes a picture window.
A commitment to quality extends to the state-of-the-art pool equipment. This includes a Zodiac
Caretaker in-floor cleaning system, a Caretaker leaf trapper, an EnviroSwim chemical-free water
purification system, a Zodiac fibreglass sand filter, Flo Pro pumps and a Virion gas heater. Surrounding
the pool is clean-lined frameless glass fencing which adds to the contemporary appearance and makes
the pool area look as open and airy as possible. The end result is a pool that looks good, is a joy to use and
virtually takes care of itself.

apturing panoramic views of the Adelaide plains, this clearly
contemporary infinity-edge pool looks as if it is peacefully

steps away from a stunning outdoor dining and kitchen area, the
pool forms the centrepiece of a space that is nothing short of luxurious.
Having travelled the globe, staying at many exclusive hotels and resorts
from which they drew inspiration, the owners knew they wanted a sleek,
modern design with strong geometric lines. They also knew that being able
to both relax and entertain was important, so Alex Pritchard and Rob Galvin
from The Galvin Group set about designing a world-class outdoor living and

PIECE OF PARADISE

T
his dazzling backyard swimming pool, designed and built by
Majestic Pools & Landscapes, flawlessly ties in with the design of
the home and landscape, which is precisely what people expect
from their pools today. A pool is no longer just a place to swim —
it’s a feature of the home.
Using the existing greenery as a backdrop, the new pool fits perfectly into
its surrounds, putting every centimetre of space to good use and ensuring
an easy flow to and from the house. The result is a private outdoor sanctuary
with a lush tropical feel. In fact, you could say it is the owner’s little piece of
paradise.
An essential part of the design is the glass fencing that separates the pool
from the house. The pool is kept safe from curious youngsters and pets
but the glass ensures the area doesn’t feel cut off from the home and the
covered outdoor entertaining space. It also has the advantage of making the
pool visible from the home’s windows so it can be enjoyed as a design feature
even when not in use.

You can sit on the timber-decked floor and

dip your toes in the refreshing water or
you can relax in an outdoor lounge chair

The pool itself has two standout features that set it apart. One is the pitched-
roof pergola that seems to hover over the water. You can sit on the timber-
decked floor and dip your toes in the refreshing water, or you can relax in an
outdoor lounge chair and watch others as they enjoy the the pool.
The other is the water feature. Positioned near the pergola in a shallow
corner of the pool, the water feature is comprised of internally lit pillars; each
is constructed using alternating layers of stone and glass. The water gently
streams down the pillars, the sheen of the flow intensified by the lighting.

116 AUSTRALIA’S BEST LANDSCAPE & POOL DESIGN

To one side of the water feature is a timber boardwalk which, like the
pergola, seems to float on the water. To either side of the boardwalk are
stepping stones set into the pool, which provide a path from the edge of the
pool to the pergola.
The use of light-coloured paving and stepping-stone toppers, set against
the deeper tones of the timberwork, creates a nice juxtaposition in the
colour scheme. These same colours and textures are used on the covered
outdoor entertaining space built off the house.
It’s not just the owners of the property who are impressed by the end
result, however. This is Australia’s most awarded pool and landscape, having
received six awards in just one year.

Although space was at a premium and preserving the view was paramount,
a small deck was included in the design. A series of steps leads up to the deck,
which is just spacious enough to accommodate matching sun lounges and
provide access to the pool. Adding to the look of luxury, travertine was used
for the steps, paving on the deck and around the spa as well as for the garden
edging that separates the lawn from the tiled spillover.
The attached spa, with its six stainless-steel jets and blower, meets the
owners’ request for a space dedicated to relaxation, while the 8m x 2m

heater warms the water in winter and on chilly evenings while the Aqua Quip

to life at night.

features that utilise the home’s existing heat exchange system and it recycles
all of the water used with an auto top-up system. Add to this the Astral Pools

I
f you’re an aficionado of classical design and you like to do things on a
grand scale, this impressive swimming pool will be a source of inspiration
— and envy. Conjuring up images of the opulent villas and bath houses
for which the Roman Empire was famed, everything about this pool
exudes elegance, from the classical columns of the poolside pergola to the
feature urn employed as a focal point at one end of the pool.
When you look out from the rear of the house, the ornate poolside
pergola catches the eye and entices you to stroll to the pool zone at the far
end of the garden and sample one of the luxurious built-in daybeds. From the
cushioned comfort of these daybeds you can survey the formal landscape
and the generously proportioned pool that is its centrepiece. In fact, the
entire pool area, thanks to its well-balanced design, grand scale and exquisite
detailing, resonates with a feeling of grandeur.
The interior of the pool is fully tiled in pale pink. This has a subtle, softening
effect on the colour of the water and the overall ambience. The main entry
into the pool is via a wide internal step which leads to a second, wider step
and an expansive leisure ledge which continues down the pergola side of the
pool. Entry can also be gained via a smaller pool step positioned between the
central columns of the pergola.
Although the design takes you back to ancient times due to its classical
styling, the pool is packed with 21st-century technology. A PCC 2000 in-floor
cleaning system is programmed for every contour while an automatic pH
and liquid chlorination system and large sand filter take care of the nitty gritty
maintenance chores. A large Viron gas heater prolongs the swimming season
in the cooler months — not unlike a heated Roman bath house.

I
t’s what many of us crave: a high-set home with a panoramic water view.
And if there is a luxury swimming pool perched in just the right spot to
commandeer that view, so much the better.
The owners of this Sydney property had just completed a modern new
home designed to make the most of the great aspect and spectacular harbour vista.
The pool needed to match that by having the perfect orientation. It also needed to
complement the house and view, thereby realising the property’s full potential.
A challenging, steeply sloping site like this one often presents some of the
best opportunities to deliver a unique result, which is what FreeStyle Pools has
done. The negative-edge pool makes excellent use of what was a previously
unusable corner of the property and has become an integral part of the
adjacent outdoor entertaining area.
At the far end of the new pool is a small spillover that leads to a spa and

maximise the serene harbour outlook yet remain close to the undercover patio

The pool surrounds are of light-coloured porcelain tile while the interior
surfaces of the pool and spa were tiled in glass mosaics, the hue carefully
chosen to blend with the colour of the water in the harbour beyond. This
colour matching also helps to ensure the negative-edge design gives
the impression of a seamless transition from the pool to the borrowed

pool optimises the unusual shape of the sloping garden’s upper tier by
incorporating a long lap section, which is perfect for family fitness, and a wider,
shallow section where children can paddle and adults can kick back and relax.
The split-level coping around the pool is an arresting design element highlighted
by the lustrous black ceramic mosaic waterline tiles. These contribute a sense of
added depth (as dark colours seem to recede) and sit in striking contrast to the
tumbled travertine paving that flows around the pool, not to mention the vivid red
of the raised planter wall and the retaining wall that wraps around the lower-level
entertaining section.
Lounge areas were created at either end of the pool. At one end, a trio of

the size right but the location too. The closer the pool is to your house or

In this instance, Capital Country Pools was able to site the pool next
to the home’s covered alfresco area, making it possible for diners and swimmers to
chat and stay connected. The pool also sits beneath the floor-to-ceiling windows of
the lounge room, constantly tempting the family out of the house for a quick dip or

Capital Country Pools selected a 5.8m x 3m Compass Pool fibreglass shell in

so you can be swimming and playing pool games in next to no time. Capital Country
Pools also chose this shell for its appealing finish, durable construction and in-built

can be used by children for paddling or by adults for resting.
A neutral colour was chosen for the paving around the pool and entertaining
