What is the relationship between knowledge

and culture?

Object: History textbook for Bosnian and Herzegovinian gymnasiums with Croatian
curriculum

This textbook is a book made by the Croatian company

Školska naklada and it is used to teach history in Bosnian
schools with Croatian curriculums.

The content of the textbook is mostly related to Croatian

history, and throughout the entire highschool, history
lessons do not include as much of global history, yet
alone Bosnian not at all. The reason I chose this object is
because I want to contrast knowledge with culture and to
raise the question of who decides which knowledge will
be taught in which culture.

As a Croat that lives in BiH, it took me some years to realize that the knowledge that I'm being taught is not
related to the culture im surrounded by. In school, I mostly learned about Croatian culture and knew the least
about my own. Yes, I think we should be taught some of our native culture since we go to that school, but there
should be a better relationship between the knowledge being taught in school and culture we live every day. I
didn't know much about many of my friends' cultures beacuse I was never told what it was. I spent 10 years
learning about something that I don't have much in common with, repetitevly, not having any relationship with
the local or global culture.
