Identity and Good Life

In module one, although the schedule for the intersession is so tight, I learned and
realize a few things about our identity and the concept of having a good life in the span of a
week if I am not mistaken. To our common knowledge, Identity is something we are born with
and was further shaped by our surroundings and experience. Moreover, the concept of having a
good life by most people if not all are having a lot of money to the point that you can buy
everything you need and do all you want as long as it can be bought with money. However,
based on what I learned in module one, the identity of a person is not set in stone from the
start, and the concept of a good life varies widely in each individual, time, and place.
What is an identity? What exactly is identity, as defined by Google as “the fact of being
who or what a person or thing is” The concept of identity is nuanced and influenced by several
internal and external influences. What do we look like and who are we? Being true to one's
identity affects how one sees themselves and how they feel others see them. Many of us have a
tendency to view identity as the component of who we are that cannot be altered and is fixed
in place. Although they may serve as a baseline, our early identities are remarkably changeable
as we get older and experience various things that can make us change. The association
between all of our identification features appears to be more constant throughout time,
suggesting that we do not just change our identities at random. This indicates that even if some
of a person's characteristics changed a little with age, they might retain their relative identity
profile, such as being extremely conscientious but also a little irritable. Thinking of identity as
fixed could make us feel as though we can never change or make us ignore people who have
certain traits we dislike out of fear that change is not possible when it is.
From the question what is a good life? For many, as mentioned above, it is having a lot of
money to buy the things they wanted. My answer to that question is that a life that is self-
fulfilling and self-satisfying can be characterized as a good existence. Personal happiness,
contentment, and appreciation of life's little joys are its defining characteristics. When someone
thinks their life is excellent, they are referring to having access to the essential needs, comforts,
and pleasures in life. To some, having a good life is the same as discovering their passion. They
must identify their passion and turn it on if they want to succeed more in life. Their actual
ambition and what they are wired to do are represented by their passion. Their passion will
probably be their biggest source of inspiration. Their "hunger for more" is sparked by passion,
which also gives them the drive to lead fulfilling lives. With this in mind, there are a lot of
concepts of a good life that a person can choose depending on their preference as a person
living a good life.
Therefore, It would seem strange to say that such a particular life can be called the finest. If
there is the best life for humans, does it imply that it is the best life for every human being,
independent of individual gifts or innate preferences? According to this perspective, lives are
similar to appearances in that there may be the best appearance for each individual, but sadly,
there may not be the best appearance for you. Some philosophers claim that this is illogical:
how can a particular style of life be better for you if there is no way for you to appreciate,
enjoy, or be interested in such a life while still being who you are?
To sum it all up, the identity of a person is not fixed from the moment a person is born but it is
changing depending on the experience he or she accumulates that will shape his or her identity.
The identity is not fixed but a past identity can be a baseline of a person’s future identity. As
mentioned, the concept of a good life varies widely in each individual, time, and place.
Therefore, it can be said that only the person himself can identify if he is having a good life or
not.
