RELIGION, TRIBALISM AND ETHNICITY TOLERANCE AMONG YOUTHS: KEY

TO A GREATER NIGERIA

Nigeria is a pluralistic state with various convictions and religions. The organizations
have forever been narrow minded of each other and their commonly hostile mentalities
imbibed on the youths have brought about many struggles. Huge number of lifes have
been lost to strict emergencies in Nigeria, particularly in the Northern and South Eastern
parts of the country.

This enthusiasm and strict prejudice have changed into strict viciousness. This is for the
most part normal in the northern parts of Nigeria. The partisan fierce struggles are either
because of various translation of principle, forceful evangelism, protection from change
and so forth by youths of these sects who tend to fight for or defend what they believe.

Moslem-Christian conflict in Jos, 2001 and the current Boko Haram commotion in
Bauchi, Yobe Katsina, Kano to specify only a couple, are a portion of the occurrences of
strict rough contentions in Nigeria.

Significant commitments by religions, be it African Religion, Christianity or Islam, in a

nation where there are numerous ethnic gatherings, whose strict are not something
similar; is of extraordinary importance for peace and unity.

In Nigeria, absence of strict resistance is normal among Muslims and Christian youths.
This is on the grounds that the leaders of Islam and Christianity are found of oppressive
and damaging words in their lessons to the younger ones consequently making scorn,
doubt among individuals of various religions to the disunity of the country.

The continuation of this demeanor, can never ensure solidarity. Rather, it prompts strict
mobs which toward the end lead to public disunity. Absence of strict resistance shouldn't
have emerge at all in light of the fact that our nation is a country that is known for
protecting an astonishing strict harmony between the Muslims and the Christians.

Tribalism is one more significant impact of religion on public solidarity. In Nigeria

today, there exists tribalism, and where it wins, it is truly challenging for residents to be
joined together.

This is on the grounds that right from the time Nigeria became free on first October,
1960, a significant number of the political pioneers are tribalistic and to that end Nigeria
needs public solidarity. Indeed, even up till today, a large number of our forerunners in,
important, influential place are at real fault for tribalism. No big surprise one sees a task
which is to be refered to in a specific state been refered to somewhere else for ethnic
motivations to the disunity of the country. This kind of evil demeanor ought to stop in
order to give space for solidarity.

Throughout the long term, Nigeria had been labeled "a security risk country" subsequent
whereupon numerous worldwide networks have cautioned their nationals not to reside or
try and travel to the Region. This is on the grounds that they have being encountering
various emergencies, social indecencies, absence of cheerful relationship of youths
among their different ethnic identities and consistent threats among the occupants of one
town, city and the other; one state and another or occupants of a similar town or a similar
state in view of ancestral, religions or philosophical contrasts.

Generally Nigeria has made considerable progress from multi-ethnic element with
political contrasts and foundation to the blend of 1914 till the current design of 36 states.

Fundamentally, nationality in Nigeria, is an item imbalance among the different ethnic

gatherings coordinated by an extensive stretch of expansionism; a period which saw the
command of three significant ethnic gatherings to the socio-political control of other
ethnic gatherings and a period when the three significant ethnic gatherings were utilized
as a platform for the conveyance of socio-political products, bringing about the failure of
other ethnic gatherings to get to these socio-political merchandise. This present
circumstance has kept on affecting adversely on the powers of public mix of youths and
union in ethnically partitioned Nigeria.

Though Nigeria at this point may seem to have hit the rock consequent upon the
aforementioned challenges, attaining a greater and better Nigeria is still very much
possible.

Leaders of the various religious, ethnic and tribal sects should teach, culture and imbibe
the habit of ethnic, religious and tribal tolerance into the youths (who are the leaders of
tomorrow). Teach them that no religion is superior to the other and none should be
enforced on anyone. This would help eradicate violence amongst these sects as we have
witnessed in the northern part of the country and enhance peaceful coexistence.

Raise and Sensitize the youths on the need to love and respect each other despite their
difference in tribe, religion and ethnicity. This will help in rural and urban development
of the various parts of the country as the tendency of these youths, working together to
carry out project, secure lives, birth innovative ideas, etc would be paramount thereby
expelling strive, violence and insecurity amongst the people and their environment. The
eminence of justice and equity when these youths understand that they are actually one is
inevitable.

In conclusion, 'A house divided amongst itself cannot stand.' Nigeria cannot attain a
greater height when there are internal wars going on in every part of the country with
youths seeking to defend what they think is right at the forefront. Sensitize these youths
on the need to tolorate and welcome each other's religion, ethnic and tribal groups, then
watch Nigeria stand again.
