Assignment 2A
The Hypothesis of the experiment-The time a neural impulse takes to make a response
Long distance is supposed to be covered when the participants squeeze each other's
hands, while the short distance is when they squeeze one another's shoulders. The dependent
variable for the experiment is the amount of time it takes for the squeeze to go from the first
The participants hold hands to form a chain for the experiment, and when instructed to
"GO," the first participant squeezes the hand of the second participant, who then squeezes the
hand of the third participant, and so on. As the experimenter keeps track of the time, the final
participant will say stop to halt the clock. To determine the average response time, the hands-
squeezing procedure is repeated three more times. The duration of the hand-to-hand neural
impulse trials was 7.90, 7.38, and 7.20 seconds, respectively. The experiment lasts, on average,
7.49 seconds.
The following condition will also create a chain from hand to shoulder. When
commanded to "GO," the first person in the hand-to-shoulder chain squeezes the shoulder of the
second person, and so on. The final participant will also shout "STOP" to bring the timing to a
halt while the experimenter records the time. To obtain an average time, the shoulder squeezing
process will be repeated three times. The bodily portion that is squeezed is the experiment's
independent variable. The hand-to-shoulder neuro impulse trials took 6.63 seconds, 6.38
seconds, and 6.25 seconds, respectively. The experiment takes 6.42 seconds on average.
The outcomes of each trial for each condition and the average time for each condition
supported the hypothesis. The average response time for the hand-to-hand condition was 7.49
seconds. The average response time for the hand-to-shoulder condition was 6.42 seconds. Given
that the hand-to-shoulder condition is closer together than the other, the hand-to-shoulder
The arm length of each participant is a source of concern. Each person has a unique arm's
length. One person in the hand-to-hand condition may have a shorter arm length than another
Assignment 2B
Designing an experiment
Operationally defined independent variable – Four sets of colors will be selected. Both
the question paper and the answer sheet will be the same color; however, they will be distributed
in four distinct sets. The first three sets will be light blue, light yellow, and light green, while the
Operationally defined DV – The marks scored by students in each set will be compared.
Experimental group – The first 3 groups of students would be the experimental group.
Each group will receive similar question paper but printed in different background colors such as
Control group – The fourth group here is the control group who will be using Colourless
Participants – Students with similar past performance or IQ levels who are the same age
and in the same grade level would be chosen. Random sampling is not practicable in this case
because the IQ of the participant outweighs the effect of question paper color on performance.
Procedure – Students chosen will be divided into four groups and sent to four separate
classrooms. Each group would be given the same questions but with a different background
color. All groups will be given a similar amount of time to complete the exam. Following that,
the group with the highest average mark would be proclaimed the winner. If the control group
wins, the hypothesis is proven false. Otherwise, the hypothesis is demonstrated to be true.
