Experiment No. 3
& Full wave rectification: Center-Tapped
Experiment Title transformer

Date of Experiment: 2022/9/30

JAZAN University Department: Electrical Engineering
COLLEGE OF ENGINEERING Prepared by: Dr. Sabeur MASMOUDI

Experiment 3:
Full Wave Rectification :
Center-Tapped Transformer

Objectives:
• Study the applications of diode as a full wave rectifier.
• Examine the output waveform of a Center-Tapped Transformer Rectifier.

Procedure:
A- Center-Tapped Transformer
o Build the following basic circuit with R=1KΩ :

CH1
D1
12V

Vi
R
6V
CH2
Vo
0V
D2

o Draw the input and output wave signals.

Electronics LAB - 1/2 - 201. /201.

JAZAN University Department: Electrical Engineering
COLLEGE OF ENGINEERING Prepared by: Dr. Sabeur MASMOUDI

o Complete the following table with CH1 and CH2 : Coupling DC

Vpp VM VRMS Vavg f

CH1: Vi 33.7 16.85 12 60

CH2: Vo 7.6 3.8 2.86 4.3 120

o Write the analytic expression of Vavg for Vo of the full wave rectifier using VD and VM:

Full Wave Rectifier

Vavg = 4.36

o Verify the expression after deducting VD = …10……V using the cursors of oscilloscope.
o Deduce the relationship between fi and fo :……………………………………………..

B- Center-Tapped Transformer with filtering

o Added a capacitor parallel with the load resistance in order to observe the effect of the
capacitor filter with C=10 µF. Redraw the new network.

o Draw the waveforms of Vo and Vi.

C- Compare the measurement of Vavg for each case:

Full Wave Rectifier without filtering Full Wave Rectifier with filtering

Vavg = 4.36 Vavg = (7.8 – 7) / π =0
