INTRODUCTION
CONCEPT OF NGO

A non-govermental organization (NGO) is a non-profit group

that functions independently of any government. NGOs,
sometimes called civil societies , are organized on community,
national and international levels to serve a social or political goal
such as humanitarian causes or the environment.

ABOUT HOPELINE

HOPELINE is a children’s home that opens its door on July

25,2016 in Jorhat. In accordance with the Juvenile Justice Act,
children who are deprived of social services or who flee their
homes are rescued by CWC(Children Welfare Committee). In
order to provide for their care and protection, the kids are sent to
Hopeline children’s home. With facilities for the children’s bright
futures, the youngsters are given sufficient care and protection,
as well as many other vocational training.
 WHAT IS SOCIAL WORK ?
Social work is a practice-based profession and an academic
discipline that prioritizes human well-being and aims to help
meet basic and complex needs of all people, with a particular
focus on those who are vulnerable, oppressed, and living in
poverty. Social work differs from other professions because it
focuses both on the person and their environment.
Whatever a student’s motivation for studying social work,
getting the right training is key to shaping their outlook and
preparing them to enter the workforce. Here’s why the “how” of
studying social work is just as important as the “why”.When it
comes to excelling in any field of work, experience is the most
important factor. The more a student knows and understands, the
more they’re able to contribute to the profession. For this reason,
applied experience is at the heart of social work education. It
allows students to put the lessons learned in the classroom into
practice and helps them understand the importance of social
work. A student’s ability to apply theory at a practical level—
before entering the workforce—prepares them to hit the ground
running after graduation.

REVIEW OF LITERATURE

DEFINITION OF CHILD LABOUR

International labor organization defines child labor as “the work

that deprives the children of their childhood and their dignity
which hampers their accesses to education and the acquisition of
the skills which is performed under conditions which is harmful
to their health and their development”

As per the Child and Adolescent Labour(Prohibition and

Regulation)Act,1986,amended in 2016(“CLPR Act”), a “Child”
is defined as any person below the age of 14, and the CLPR Act
prohibits employment of a Child in any employment including as
a domestic help.

CAUSES OF CHILD LABOUR

 The Socio Economic Backwardness.

 Poverty.
 Illiteracy.
 Overpopulation .
 Unemployment .
 Lack of education facilities .
 Ignorance of parents about the importance of education .
OBJECTIVE OF THE STUDY

 To analyze the living conditions of children.

 To assess the conditions of the child labours working in

different sectors like industry, agriculture, domestic work,
services- hotels, shops, automobile repair shops, fire crackers
factory, etc in the selected states.

 To study the factors related to child labor - like the reasons

for working, problems faced by the child, workplace
conditions, etc.
PROBLEMS FACED AND STEPS TAKEN

During the survey, we noticed that the children were timid and
not open to share their reasons for which they had to start
working at such a young ages also the owner of the bearer were
not very supportive towards the survey .

In such situations we assure them to keep their identity

confidential as some the children were bound to work because of
poor family background and lack of educational importance.

During the questioning, we asked the children who is working as

a child labour that what are the reasons behind for doing it at
such a young age .Based on their answers we found the main
reasons for join as a child labour are-

 Parental illiteracy.

 Tradition of making children learn the family skills.

 Absence of universal compulsory Primary education.

 Ignorance of the parents about the adverse consequences of

Child labour.
UNDERSTANDING THE CHILD LABOUR-
YOUTH EMPLOYMENT LINK: A LIFECYCLE
PERSPECTIVE

During the survey we told them the importance of quality

education and of an environment that promotes normal physical,
mental and emotional development as a starting point for decent
work over the lifecycle is well established. We know that
children benefiting from good education and from a healthy
developmental environment are more likely to be equipped with
the necessary competencies and life skills to make a successful
transition to working life during adolescence and early adulthood.

CONCLUSION
On the whole, this internship was a useful experience. We have
gain knowledge, skills. We achieved several of our learning
goals. We got insights into professional and social practice. We
learn facts of working within a NGO.At last, this internship has
given us new insights and motivation to work for the society and
its development.

In conclusion the present study indicated that Child labour could

not get the benefit of education as most of the participants are
out of school; their health, growth and development are
threatened; they have lost the love and affection, care and
protection of family because they do not visit their families and
cannot enjoy rest and recreation because they work on weekend
and holidays.

“Children belong in schools not workplaces. Child labour

deprives children of their right to go to school and
reinforces intergenerational cycles of poverty. Child
labour acts as a major barrier to education, affecting
both attendance and performance in school.”
