 Use your own words and summarize Weil’s article in two paragraphs:

In the article said: The key to a Christian conception of studies is the realization that
prayer consists of attention. It show is the connection between Studies, Prayer and Attention. In
our life as a Christian we need to study more to strengthen our faith. In both studying and
practicing our faith through prayer we need to pay more attention on what we are doing. Paying
attention on doing things help us to create more desire, enthusiasm and lessen our laziness.
Attention produces a good fruit in our deeds.
The author also points out that attention is an effort, the greatest of all efforts perhaps, if
we are not get tired. It is better to stop working to seek for relaxation, rather than continue
working for a bad result because of tiredness. She also recommend that twenty minutes of
concentrated attentively is better than work for many hours as an compliance of finishing tasks.
Since the reflection is about Studies, Prayer and Attention; She end her reflection with beautiful
and strong words of expressing what academic work is: Academic work is one of those fields
containing a pearl so precious that it is worthwhile to sell all our possessions, keeping nothing
for ourselves, in order to be able to acquire.
 How do you understand “attention” that is the heart of Simone Weil’s reflection?
Attention help us to deepen our concentration in prayer, enrich our understanding in
studying and strengthen our faith. Attention is joy of learning in which the intelligence will
grows and bears fruit.
 Given your present life context, how will you apply Simone Weil’s points?
Learning from the ideas of the author, I am aware of how important of attention in my
daily life is. All of the tasks need to be attentive. I also learn from her ideas that it is good to have
an effort of attentive, but I need to manage my effort. Knowing my limitation in doing things
will help me have a good arrangement in my tasks, giving time to rest is necessary, so that my
works will bear much fruits.
 What “insights” emerge from your dialogue with Weil?
At this moment of my life, I need to study more and understand well for the sake of my
future mission. Since I am not good in paying attention, I have to practice it now and then.
Attention is not only help me focus on my study but also help me focus in my prayer which is the
best way to strengthen my bonding with God.
 Come up with your own outline of a schedule that may be helpful in your practice
of philosophy and the living out of the points you’ve learned from Weil.
For my schedule, I need to balance the time of prayer, study, apostolate and community
life, as well as recreation. Especially be aware of my laziness because if I can not defeat it, it will
ruin all of the plan in my schedule.
