Answer the following:
1. Who were Dorothy’s companions? Where were they going?
Ans: Dorothy’s companions were Toto, the dog and the scarecrow. They were going to
the Emerald city to meet the Wizard of Oz.
2. Why did the road become dark?
Ans: They were walking in a great forest where the trees grew so big and close together
that their branches met over the road. So, the road became dark as the branches shut
out the daylight.
3. Who was groaning in the forest? Why was he groaning?
Ans: The tin man was groaning in the forest because, his joints had not been oiled for
more than a year and he was in utter pain.
4. How did Dorothy help the tin man?
Ans: Dorothy helped the tin man by oiling his joints and relieving from the pain.
5. Describe Dorothy in your own words.
Ans: Dorothy was a kind girl because she offered a piece of bread to the scarecrow and
shared her food with Toto. She was brave as she was dared to walk into the deep forest
and she was very helpful also as she helped the tin man by oiling his joints.
