What is art? What is humanities?

The term or word “HUMANITIES” comes from the latin word humanus which means
human, cultured and refined. To be human is to have or show qualities like rationality
kindness and tenderness
Humanities are academic disciplines that study aspects of human society and culture
The term Humanities refer to the arts the visual arts such as architecture painting and
sculpture music dance the theater or drama and the literature they are the branches of
turning concerned with human thought feelings and relations
The importance of the human being and his feelings and how he expresses a those feelings
have always been the concern of the humanities the humanities or the records of man's
experience his values his sentiments his ideals and his goals it is important in a
development of a complete social being ready to take on his responsibilities in this rapidly
changing world and enjoy life
What is art?
Art is derived from the latin word ARS meaning ability or skill
Art as representation are mimesis art as expression of emotional content art as form
Art as representation or mimesis

for this reason the primary meaning of art was for centuries defined as the representation
or replication of something that is beautiful or meaningful until roughly the end of the

Art as expression of emotional content expression became important during the romantic
movement with artwork expressing a definite feeling audience response was important for
the artwork was intended to evoke an emotional response this definition hold true today as
artist look to connect with and evoke responses from their viewers

only on its formal qualities because the content of of a work of art is not of a static interest
formal qualities became particularly important when art became more abstract in the 20th
century and the principles of art and design which are balance rhythm harmony and unity
were used to define and assess art
A formal analysis of a work of art describes how the elements and principles of art work
together independent of their meaning and the feelings or thoughts they may evoke in the
viewer finally form is also used to describe the physical nature of the artwork as in metal
sculpture and oil painting etc
Art concerns itself with the communication of certain ideas and feelings
According to doris van de bogart a work of art is a record of a particular artist view it
shows something that he has seen felt and thought off and recorded it as an arrangement of
designs colors lines and tones or words which satisfy his a static or but it is the product of
the artist unique personality influence consciously or unconsciously by factors such as his
environment tradition national traits religious beliefs economic conditions his ideas or
even the climate and geography
