This writing assignment explores the role of Human Resources.

Instructions
Step 1: Conduct an interview
Contact an HR Professional who will be able to answer your questions about the role of Human
Resources in today’s workplaces.
Explain the assignment is to discuss HR’s role for a course in Human Resources Management and ask
if they are willing to share their perspective on a few questions that should take no more than 30
minutes.
Set up an interview time with the person you selected. You may conduct the interview in person,
virtually or by phone. Take as many notes as you need. You will be compiling your data into a written
assignment to answer the following questions:

 What are the key responsibilities of your HR department?

 What are the greatest challenges you face in today’s working environment?
 What strategies does your organization employ to address these challenges?
 What knowledge, skills and abilities are needed to be an effective and successful HR
professional?

Step 2: Write a narrative response.

For this assignment, write one to two pages (250-500 words) as a discussion or narrative response.
Avoid using a Q&A format or just making every response a quote. Look for patterns in the answers to
create categories, such as “key strategies”, “HR’s role” or “profile of an HR professional”, or whatever
makes sense using your data.
As a final question, ask yourself if you agree or disagree with what was shared. Identify the points with
which you agree or disagree and briefly explain why.

1. The paper should be 350 to 500 words, or 1-2 pages single-spaced (not including title page). No
more than 750 words.
2. Formatting:

b. 1 inch document margins
