Understanding Level of Comprehension When Teaching Literature
*Luke, Dooley, and Woods (2011) in their study claimed that comprehension, as a predictor
of overall academic achievement, includes the simultaneous extraction and construction
meaning from a text.
*PISA study emphasized the importance of “students being able to apply their knowledge
and skills to real-life situations.”
*To be successful in reading an article, story, poem or novel, one has to draw on reading
strategies to develop the skills need in comprehension.
