IV. Abstraction

Parts of speech are the basic types of words that

English has. Most grammar books say that there
are eight parts of speech: Nouns, verbs,
adjectives, adverb, pronoun, conjunctions,
prepositions and interjections.

Who among of you familiar with these eight

parts of speech? Please raise your hand. (Most of the students raise their hands).
Sir!!!
So there are eight parts of speech also known as
world classes. The nouns, pronouns, adjectives,
verbs, adverbs, prepositions, conjunctions and
interjections.

The first part of speech is called “Noun”

So what is Noun? Kindly please read .
(Select a student to read the meaning of nouns) Sir!!! (Raise hand)

Very Good!!

So, the noun are the words that are used to

name, people, places, animals, ideas and things.
Noun can be classified into main categories: The
common nouns and proper nouns. Then the
common nouns are generic like ball, car stick for
instance, and the proper nouns are most specific
like Charles, The White House, The Sun, etc.

In nouns, there are some examples used in

sentence. Please read and explain the example
(Select a student to read the example of nouns).
Okay sir! (Start discussing)
Very well said! Please sit down.

So in the first example, the noun in the sentence

is "a pair of shoes" because it is classified as a
thing. Then in another example, a noun is a "pet"
because it is classified as an animal. In the third
example, "brother" is a noun because it is
classified as a person, and lastly, in the fourth
example, "school" is a noun because it is classified
as a place.

Next, the second parts of speech is Pronoun.

Can you define The Pronoun and its example?
Sir! (Raise hand)
(Select a student to read the definition and its
example).

Please discuss your thoughts or ideas to your

classmate about pronouns and its example.
Okay sir. (Start discussing)
Very good!

Pronouns are used to substitute for a noun in a

sentence. And it has different types of
pronouns. The reflexive, possesive, relative, and
indefinite pronouns In the first example, "I" is a
personal pronoun. The second example,
"someone," is an indefinite pronoun. Then the
relative pronoun is "who". The possesive
pronoun is "my." Finally, the reflexive pronoun
is "myself."
Now lets move forward to the third parts of
speech its called

What is it called?
(All students answered) The Adverb sir!
Very good class!

So the adverb are the words that are used to

provide more information about verbs,
adjectives, and other adverbs used in a
sentence.

There are Five main types of adverbs

What are those?
Sir! (Raise hand)
Any one? (Give points to students who
volunteer)

Okay. So the main types of adverbs , namely,

adverbs of manner, adverbs of degree, adverbs
of degree, adverbs of frequency, adverbs of time
and the adverbs of place.
Okay sir. (Start discussing)
Please read the example and kindly explain the
example of adverb. (Another hand and give
points to students who volunteer).

Okay, thank your for participating!

So in the example of an adverb used in a

sentence, where the adverb of place is "here",
the adverb of time is "yesterday", the adverb of
frequency is "everyday", the adverb of manner
is "quickly", and the adverb of degree is
"hardly".

Now, moving on to the fifth parts of speech it’s

called “Adjectives”

Anyone? Please read (Give points to students

who volunteer to read it)
Yes sir!!! (Raise hand)

Very well said!

The adjectives are words that are used to

describe or to provide new information about
the noun or the subjective in a sentence. Some
examples of adjectives include good, ugly, quick,
beautiful, late, etc.

Class give some examples of adjectives and

please explain your example (Select a student to
give examples of adjectives and give points to
students) Okay sir. (Start giving some example and
explanation).

Very good!

“The place we visited yesterday was serene” is

the example of adjectives sentence then the
adjective here is “serene”

Okay another one? ( Give points to students

who volunteer to give example of adjectives and
to explain).
Sir! (Raise hand)
Thank You! Please sit down.

By the way, do you get it class?

Yes sir!
Eyes on here, so the sixth main parts of speech
is “Prepositions, these words that are used to
link one part of the sentence to another. It also
show the position of object or subject in a
sentence. Some of examples of preposition that
can be used are in, out, besides, below , under,
near, etc.

Now please read the examples of preposition

used in sentences. Anyone from the class?
(Give points to students who volunteer)

Please discuss your examples Sir! (Raise hand)

Very well said! Okay sir. (Start discussing)

Regarding from your example, “The teacher

asked the students to draw lines on the paper so
that they could write in straight lines”. So the
preposition here is the “on and the in”.

Do you get it class?

For the next main parts of speech or the seventh Yes sir!
parts of speech is called, “Conjunctions”

Anyone? Please read! (Give points to students

who volunteer to read it).
Sir!!! (Start reading)
Okay thank you!

So the conjunctions are the parts of speech that

it is used to connect two different parts of
sentence, the phrases and and clauses. There
are some example of conjunctions are and, or,
for, yet, although, because, not only, etc.
Okay sir. (Student start giving ideas or
Can you give me some example or idea of examples).
Conjunctions? (Choose a randomly in the
attendance list)

Very good Ms./Mr. ______

So the example here is that "Meera and Jasmine

had come to my birthday party." The
conjunction here is "and." Then in the second
example is that "Jane did not go to work as she
was sick." The conjunction here in the sentence
is "as"

Now moving on to the last parts of speech,

called “Interjections”

Please read Ms./Mr. ______ (choose a name

randomly in the attendance list).

Can you give to us your idea and its example?

Yes sir! (Student discuss the interjections and its
example)
Very good Ms./Mr. ______ Please sit down.

So, interjections are the words that are used to

convey strong emotions or feelings. Some
examples of interjections are oh, wow, alas,
yipee, etc. It is always followed by an
exclamation mark . So the first example is
"wow! What a wonderful work of art." and the
second is "Alas! That is really sad." The
interjections here are "alas". Then the last
example is "Yipee! We won the match. "Then
the interjection here is, "Yipee."
Okay, so those are the eight main parts of
speech. The nouns, pronouns, verbs, adverbs,
adjectives, prepositions, conjunctions, and the
interjections. In this class, Is their any questions
