Mahou Senshi Feedback

28/10/2022 - Dan Isamu (MisterProject)

1. Menu and UI outside of gameplay

1.1 Main Menu
- 1.1.1 [EXPERIENCE] Overall, fitting music, visuals and theme. All the buttons have
proper feedback. Nothing to complain about here!

1.2 Options Menu

- 1.2.1 [EXP] I’m really digging the option menu opening transition. Very satisfying.
- 1.2.2 [CONFUSION] Unsure of what “With Progression” and “No Progression” mean in
the Game tab…
- 1.2.3 [SUGGESTION] I suggest adding a “Do you confirm this screen resolution?” popup
with a timer after changing the game resolution, in case the user accidentally selects an
unusable resolution.
- 1.2.4 [EXP] The transition animation between different saves is awesome! Great work.

2. Initial Character Creation and Opening

2.1 Initial Character Creation
- 2.1.1 [EXP] Good selection of skin tones, hair colors and body shapes. Not a lot of
hairstyles and outfits, but I assume those will come later. The lack of options for eye colors
is curious, though.
2.2 Opening
- 2.2.1 [EXP] The background music for the character creation is fitting, though it doesn’t
fit the opening animation with Bally at all. It’s really jarring to have this quirky backpack
talking to you while a very calming song plays in the background.
- 2.2.2 [EXP] I like the background song for when the player is in their bedroom. Chill and
calming, reminds me a bit of Pokémon town themes.
- 2.2.3 [EXP] The bedroom also looks pretty good. Colorful, but not vibrant - just the right
tones to elicit an overall friendly environment.
2.3 Cosplay Creator
- 2.3.1 [EXP] AAAA I love these screen transitions!
- 2.3.2 [EXP] Hmm, not sure if this is just personal preference, but the zoom scroll feels
inverted to me. I feel like it should be up for zoom in, down for zoom out.
- 2.3.3 [EXP] WHAAAT the hair is divided into various sections? This is incredibly powerful.
Great work here.
- 2.3.4 [SGT] Add a Kimono as a body outfit! Unfortunately having a bit of difficulty to
emulate Susato Mikotoba’s kimono here…
- 2.3.5 [BUG] Sometimes when I check out an outfit part that I already have equipped, and
then cancel it, the colors on the original outfit part turn to black.
- 2.3.6 [EXP] Wow! The decoration system is pretty powerful as well! Great job.
- 2.3.7 [EXP] Moving the decorations feels a bit weird at times, mostly due to it being
relative to the camera instead of to the world, but I think you all made the right call. It
would’ve probably been not very intuitive to other people.
2.4 Crafting
- 2.4.1 [EXP] I’ll be honest, I’m not a big fan of crafting - it was easily the worst part of
Chroma Squad for me. That being said, this one wasn’t bad for me. So I think that’s kind of
a praise?

3. The battles
3.1 Opening animation
- 3.1.1 [EXP] HOLY-! That “suit up” animation was incredibly badass. Great work there.
- 3.1.2 [BUG] Uhh, pretty sure that’s a bug. On the brighter side, I like that my character’s
pose is totally a pose Susato would do.
3.2 The battles
- 3.2.1 [BUG] This text’s in portuguese.

- 3.2.2 [EXP] The battle song is absolutely amazing! No, seriously, I really love it. It fits the
game’s feel perfectly while also being a great head-bob by itself. It has this great mix of
cosmic Anamanaguchi-esque electronic and retro-style harmony reminiscent of Chroma
Squad.
- 3.2.3 [EXP] I like the way K.Os are handled. A big K.O. text appears over the character,
then they simply walk back to the crowd. Smart.
- 3.2.4 [EXP] Good to see the teamwork mechanic make a comeback! It wasn’t obvious that
it was in the game, though. I hope that it gets better explained in the full game.
- 3.2.5 [EXP/SGT] The attacks and powers feel crunchy and fun, but I think you can go a bit
further with that. Maybe add like a zoom+slowmo when an enemy is defeated?
- 3.2.6 [EXP/BUG] I love the post-battle comments, though I’m a bit miffed that one of
them is a repeat. Might be good to add a check to prevent that.
Overall, a very enjoyable demo. The game shows a lot of promise, but it also needs a bit
more polish. I liked it.
