MAS.ELA.6.SL.1: Engage effectively in a range of collaborative discussions (one-on-one, in


groups, and teacher-led) with diverse partners on grade 6 topics, texts, and issues, building on
others’ ideas and expressing their own clearly.
MAS. ELA. 6.L.4: Verify the preliminary determination of the meaning of a word or phrase
(e.g., by checking the inferred meaning in context or in a dictionary).
MAS.ART.T.II.6.3: Create monologues, dialogues, and short plays in response to real life
conflict.

Performance Based Learning Objectives comprehensive of the unit:


 Given five direct instruction, learners will be able to effectively contribute to discussions in
whole group or with partners at least three times per lesson using comments, questions, or
nonverbal gestures (e.g. thumbs-ups, raised hands, nods) throughout the lesson.
 Given their iPad’s, learners will be able to verify their preliminary determination of the
meaning of a word with 100% accuracy.
 Given prompting, learners will be able to work in a small group to create a short play in
response to a real-life conflict with 100% accuracy.
Guiding Questions:
 What would happen if no one used their manners?
 How do we use manners?
 Why do we use manners?

Knowledge of Students:
 I will review information located in the students CA-60s.
 Review IEP’s for student accommodations.

 During the first day of the unit, we will begin by talking about what students know
when filling out the KWL about manners.
