Activity 4

Instructions:

1. You will make a quick reading to each source in order to capture some ideas. Read
the abstract and the titles in the article.
2. In a sheet of paper write some keywords you saw in this first reading.
3. You will make a deeper reading including the first sentence in each paragraph.
4. Make a concept map describing the main idea of the article and connecting with
some ideas in the paragraph.
5. Read the rest of the document and now try to capture the other data you missed in
the first readings.
6. Complement your concept map with the data you consider important.
7. Identify what is the point of view of the author.
8. Do you agree or not with this perspective? Conclude in the paper.
9. Repeat this process for the other articles.

Title: What are the health benefits of yoga?

Main idea: Yoga is a safe way to increase physical activity. It may also have many
health benefits such as reducing stress, relieving anxiety and stimulating brain
function.

Do you agree or not with this perspective? I agree with the author’s perspective
because I have practiced yoga several times and after finishing a class, I always feel
better, I feel with tons of energy, relaxed, calm and ready to have a productive day.

Title: Why students should read scientific literature

Main idea: Numerous studies have been made and these studies have proved that
reading and analyzing primary literature improves scientific literacy, critical thinking
abilities, and knowledge of scientific facts.

Do you agree or not with this perspective? I agree because in general, reading
helps us to improve concentration and memory, expands our vocabulary, helps us
increase our creativity, and improves communication skills. Now, if students read
scientific articles, they will be more familiarized with scientific topics and, more
interested in learning more about their surroundings.

Main idea: All the information about great white sharks, how they live, how they eat,
where they live and how big is their community.

I agree because it is so important that we know how other species live around us, we
need to understand their way of living so we can live in peace with all the animals
and all the species we share the planet with.

Main idea: Gangs of killer whales have been spotted chasing, biting, suffocating and
then devouring the largest creature on the planet: the blue whale.

I think it is a very interesting thing to watch because as the article says, the blue
whales are recovering from their nearly extinction and these huntings in groups by
killer whales were disappearing, and now thanks to the massive reproduction of the
blue whales these huntings can now be back and humans can still be present.

Main idea: The coronavirus is a virus that causes diseases ranging from the
common cold to more serious respiratory diseases and circulates among humans.
It appeared in China in December 2019, which spread throughout the world and was
declared a global pandemic by the World Health Organization.
Do you agree or not with this perspective? I don't agree, because it is a very
serious disease and has killed many people, unbalanced the country's economy and
among many other things.

Do you agree or not with this perspective? I don't agree, because water is
essential for the life of all living beings and we humans are not valuing it.

Do you agree or not with this perspective? Yes, I agree because here we can see
that it provides us information about how the climate will be in 2022 and which is
going to be its progress.

Title: Why dolphins are deep thinkers?

Main idea: In this article it explains the behavior of dolphins through the days. The
dolphin’s trainer is the one that writes all the things that the dolphin does and how
her behavior is improving.

Do you agree or not with this perspective? I agree because most of us can see
that dolphins are very smart animals and most of them have a nice behavior while
interacting with people.

Main idea: The author provides convincing evidence of the therapeutic value of
animals in making us happier, healthier, and more sociable.

Do you agree or not with this perspective? I agree because I have seen how
dogs can help control a person’s anxiety and how they give you company when they
feel that you feel bad. There are even some trained to help you in case of a panic/
anxiety attack so i think everything in the article is very true!!

Title: Dance as a treatment for neurological disorders.

Main idea: Dance therapy is a dance-based treatment that focuses on how


movement correlates with psychological aspects such as self-awareness, expression
and coordination, which culminate in a mind–body treatment.

Do you agree or not with this perspective? I agree with the article because I
identify with it, I have danced since I was little and doing it’s something that makes
me feel the freedom and security that nothing else causes me. By the way, I think
that with dancing I can express myself much better and it makes me happy to do it.
