A. Cite a least 3 environmental issues or problems our country is facing and identify ways to
solve each problem.

Environmental Issues or Problems Solution

1. One of the most serious issues concerning
environmental change and soil degradation is
deforestation. Commercial exploitation of
forests is the main cause of deforestation.
Aside from that, large dams are being built
across many rivers as part of the development
drive, destroying forests in the process.
Forests play a critical role in maintaining the
earth's oxygen and carbon balance. Forests
play a variety of ecological roles that impact
all forms of life in various ways.
2. Ozone Depletion, Greenhouse Effect
and Global Warming: All the three
physical phenomena are related to one
another to a great extent.  depletion, excessive use of fossil fuels,
Professional foresters and social workers are
increasingly concerned about the rate of
deforestation around the world. FAO, UNDP,
World Bank, and other government and non-
governmental organizations (NGOs) have
spoken out against deforestation and
proposed plans to protect and renew forests.
In India, the Chipko Andolan and Narmada
Bachao Andolan are two popular movements
that have raised public awareness about the
ruthless destruction of forests.
Scientific and technological progress has
improved the quality of human life in many
ways, but it is also responsible for resource
deforestation and desertification, soil fertility
loss, and changes in atmospheric conditions
that have resulted in serious problems such as
greenhouse effect, ozone layer depletion, and
global warming.
 3. Desertification the causes of
desertification are numerous.
UNCOD defines desertification as ‘the
diminution or destructing of the biological
potential of land, which can ultimately led to
the desert-like conditions’.
Desertification leads to loss of vegetation
which forces men to migrate for their
livelihood while the women are left behind to
struggle on.
There is no doubt that desertification is a
huge problem that requires immediate
attention. If we take the time to address it
now, we may be able to prevent other issues
from arising in the future. Taking a critical
look at desertification will aid in the effective
implementation of reversal and prevention
initiatives.

THE CONCEPT OF SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT

REFLECTION

Sustainable development may be defined as a goal-oriented series of transformations

aiming at enhancing and attaining long-term human living quality. Living conditions, on the
other hand, are only sustainable if the living conditions of other kinds of life are protected. As a
result, the preservation of variety in terms of the circumstances and forms of life on Earth may be
regarded a cardinal goal of sustainable development in general.

This is a procedure that is both economically and chronologically demanding. It

invariably necessitates a significant shift in humans' relationships with not just nature, but also
with themselves. The ecologization process and humanization of management in the landscape,
which is commonly referred to as transferring environmental concepts to single sectors of
economic development, is the foundation of this processThis process must be part of a larger
totality, encompassing both the superstructural and realization spheres of society development.
As a result, it is a procedure for determining where and how human activities should be located
in the area so that they do not conflict with natural circumstances.
