NARRATIVE REPORT
Occupational Health and Safety is
considered to be one of the many backbones
of an innocuous working environment. It
involves the plans and risks to avoid work-
related accidents and foster health within the
manpower of an organization. It encompasses
workers, employers, family members,
customers, and others who might be affected
by the workplace environment.
As defined by the World Health
Organization (WHO) "occupational health
deals with all aspects of health and safety in
the workplace and has a strong focus on
primary prevention of hazards." Health has
been defined as "a state of complete physical,
mental and social well-being and not merely
the absence of disease or infirmity."
Occupational health is a multidisciplinary
field of healthcare concerned with enabling an
individual to undertake their occupation, in
the way that causes least harm to their
health. It contrasts, for example, with the
promotion of health and safety at work, which
is concerned with preventing harm from any
incidental hazards, arising in the workplace.
OCCUPATIONAL SAFETY: “Why is it important?”
o Every business has safety
risks
o Well-maintained
occupational safety saves
money
o Occupational safety creates
new opportunities
o Occupational safety affects
company reputation and
productivity

Occupational Safety talks about the

aspects of physical, mental, emotional
and social cues of a workplace. It is
the umbrella for an organization’s
effort to shield its workforce against
imminent dangers and possible threats
that they may face while on the hours of their duty. This also marks workers’ morale
and employee retention. It is also considered by some as an untapped opportunity –
for if the workers adapt and learn from these failures during work, a better process or
opportunity is made.

EMERGENCY PREPAREDNESS AT WORK

Insights/Lessons learned:
- OSH is a backbone of healthy working environment;
- It can be a threat turned to an opportunity if planned and prepared well;
- BOSH/COSH is offered to help individuals be equipped with skills and
knowledge on safety and health-work-related events;
- A mutual effort for an employer with his/her employee builds rapport that can
sustain and develop workplace safety and security;
- Hazards are almost everywhere. One must be keen enough to identify its
possible effect to both employee and employer and those who are connected to
it;
- Emergency preparedness refers to the steps/processes you take to make sure a
safe workplace before, during and after an emergency or natural disaster.

Recommendations:
- The institution may consider inviting more OSH parties that may increase the
skills and knowledge of the employees.
- A quarterly plan for foreseen emergencies and a contingency plan for
unexpected events.
