When I was a child, I would go outside on a sunny day just to catch dragonflies roaming
around near outside of our house. I would get one stick from our “walis tingting” and put
some of that sticky substance from a jackfruit tree to the tip of it. That’s what I used to
catch myself some dragonflies. Then after catching the dragonflies, I place them inside
of this jar and just admire these beautiful insects. It was one of my hobbies when I was
a kid, to catch dragonflies.
TUTUBI
1. The emotion that prevails in the haiku is fear.
2. Yes, the poem mirrors the culture of its origin.
3. The “tutubi” represents the Japanese oppressors.
4. The “tabak” represents danger.
5. The flower represents Filipinos that are colonized by the Japanese.
6. The flower is trembling because the dragonfly brings danger.
7. The socio-political or socio-cultural issue that is discussed in the poem is
colonization.

Linguistic Dimension
The poem was written in Filipino. The figurative language metaphor was evident in the
poem. It also showed symbolisms in all of its lines.
Ethnic Dimension
In the poem, it showcased one of the Philippines’ main products which are rice. It was
related to the resiliency of Filipinos. Filipinos persevere even in the face of problems,
they don’t give up easily. And because of this, all their hard work pays off.
