Question: Communication and information flow have changed dramatically since the middle of the 20 th

century. Challenges presented by modern communication channels and media have influenced our lives
in many ways.

How have challenges in information technology affected the workplace in the last 50years?

What are the implications for the future?

Answer: Every employer wants their employees to work efficiently and comfortably in a workplace. They
try to ensure that the productivity of an employee should always be excellent and for that to happen a
certain environment needs to be created with proper equipment and utilities.

In the last fifty years, working in a workplace has changed tremendously. Information technology has
completely changed the scenario of how employees work in a workplace. Previously, office equipment’s
such as computers, printers, fax machines, telephones, scanners, photocopy machines and many more
used to take up a lot of space in an office. This would cause office space to cramp up and employees
would be irritated by such an environment. In the present, this has changed completely. Office
equipment have been made very compact and easily portable. Many printers, scanners and photocopy
machine have been merged into one device, which means one device can perform all three tasks. Doing
so, this has freed up a lot of office space for employees and all the work can be done from one place too.
Most importantly computers used to be really big and bulky, hard to carry around and took up a lot of
space on a desk. Now we have slimmer versions of computers which are stylish in design and easily
portable. A more compact and reliable version of computer is the laptop. Laptops have made working
from home possible and one can work lying on bed too. All of this is thanks to the advancement through
information technology.

In conclusion, I believe that in the future we are going to see even better versions of technology than
what we have now. Nonetheless, the technology that we use currently is by far the most convenient and
reliable. Having up-to-date office equipment ensures employee productivity and overall performance of
a company to excel.
