9 LAYERS OF

THE EARTH
GEOGRAPHY

& atmosphere layers

THIS ARE THE
LAYERS OF THE
EARTH!
Continental crust
The continental crust is the outermost layer of Earth's
lithospherecan be aproximately 20 to 70 layers, it
contains a lot of silica
LOWER DENSITY

Oceanic crust
Is found under the ocean, this one is rich in iron and
magnesium, its around 5 to 10km thick, A feature
unique to oceanic crust is that there are areas known as
mid-ocean ridges where oceanic crust is still being
created.
HIGHER DENSITY
Upper most mantle
from the crust to a depth of about 410 kilometers, Most
basaltic magmas are generated here, its also rich in the
olivine, pyroxene, and silicate

Partially molten asthenosphere

IThis layer has extremey high temperatures, this is why
its partially melten, and its also called magma chamber,
its made up mostly of nitrogren
SOLIDASTHENOSPHERE

Layer of solid rock with extreme pressure and

heat levels, wich causes rocks to flow just as a
liquid. Its rocks are not so dense, wich
allowstectonic plates in the lithosphere to move
around on the Earth's surface.
MANTLE TRANSITION
This layer is between two
seismic discontinuities ,
These discontinuities are
polymorphic phase
changes, caused by
pressure-induced changes
of crystal structure in
certain minerals
LOWER MANTLE

This layer accounts for

nearly half of the mass of
the Earth. It is generally
accepted that its
mineralogy mostly consists
of magnesium silicate
OUTER
CORE
MOLTEN INNER SOLID CORE

Its about 2,200 kilometers thick, is Its a hot dense ball, mostly
mostly composed of liquid iron made of iron The outer core is
and nickel. The liquid metal of the where the circulating
outer core has very low conducting liquid generates
viscosity. The outer core is where the geodynamo, responsible
the circulating conducting liquid for our magnetic field.
generates the geodynamo,
responsible for our magnetic field.
