Big Idea: Overarching Theme

The big idea is to understand what it is like to travel and how different areas function. To
understand the different roles people have within an airport.

Essential Question(s) Students will consider and reflect on throughout the lesson:

What happens when you go on a plane?


What are activities to do while you travel?

Objective/Performance Expectations: What will students know and be able to do as a


result of this lesson?

Student will learn about what it takes to travel by making there own boarding pass using the
worksheet.

Assessment Evidence/Level of Learning


Students will show what they know by evidence of/list names of formative or summative
checks, quizzes, tests which indicate evidence of learning:

I will check understanding by asking the students the answers to there boarding pass keychain.




Differentiated Instruction: Modifications in instruction and assessment for students with


learning differences, specifically those with 504’s and IEP’s.

The boarding pass sheets will be highlighted on where to cut and what to write on there paper.
I will already have the passes hole bunched and string ready fro the students.

Motivation/Prior Knowledge: Preparing students for the lesson: How will you activate prior
knowledge, build background, or review previous lessons?

I will activate prior knowledge by asking the students if they remember where I was for the
past 2 weeks. This will remind them that I told them I was away.

Materials Needed:
- Craft materials
- Boarding pass paper
- Yarn
- Powerpoint

Sequence the Lesson:


What learning activities/strategies will you use to engage the students in the learning? What
will students do to use and apply new concepts or skills (independent practice if relevant)?
How will you monitor and guide their performance? Include relevant vocabulary. (Please use
bullets to sequence your lesson.)

- I will start the lesson by asking the students where they think I was at. I will let them guess
where I was and what I was doing
- I will show them on the map where I was.
- Then, I will start the story of my travel time
- I will explain how I needed to get on a place to get to Boston and tell them what
happened at the airport
- Show up hours early, security checks our bag and then find our place
- Explain the different employees within the airport

- TSA Secuitry Guard: job is to make sure our luggage is safe


- Pilot: flys the plane
- Flight Attendant: help the passages find seats and provides food and snacks
- Then, I will tell them the funny story of going to the wrong hotel
- I will then show them the activities we did in downtown Boston
- The art work around the city on the buildings
- Kane’s Donuts: famous gluten free donuts
- All types of historic buildings
- Show the oldest post office in Boston
- The Freedom Trail
- Starts at Boston commons: a big field
- Very old buying ground of some famous people’s family
- The Navy Ship: this is a ship that was used for the Navy and what it looked like
- USS Constitution: this is the only active ship that you can tour
- Then, it was time to go back home
- I will ask them what is one place they want to visit and why
- I will allow each student to share there answer if they would like
- Finally, we will do a craft
- We are going to make there own boarding pass key change
- The boarding pass key chains includes:
- Board pass with travel name, place traveling, date, time and seat assignment
- Who there pilot is
- Who the flight attendant is
- What snacks they will have during the flight
- If the passed security
- The number of bags they have with them
- The will fill out each aspect of the keychain. Then they will cut our each piece and string the
passes together.
- I will bring the lesson to an end I will remind them of the things I saw in Boston and why we
made our own boarding passes.
- I will have them complete there take home paper and pack up all there belongings.

Closure: What will you do to bring closure to the lesson? How will you summarize this
lesson and preview the lesson that will follow?

I will summarize the lesson by telling them all the things I did in Boston and telling them about
the process of being on a plane.
